The big competition will be with this and The Dark Knight Rises next summer, but personally I'm looking forward to this alot more because it has SO much to live up to and I don't think it will let us down. Ridley is the man!

Yeah it is. That was the "Space Jockey" Ridley always talked about. That is what he named it while filming back in 1979 :)

Ridley Scott is an artist of cinematography and storytelling. I have absolute faith that this will be the best film of 2012.

@Nexus2Eden I saw both when first released and to this day Alien was THE scariest thing i ever saw and was completely groundbreaking. BR is just epic.

@JazukaiX Oh, and Cameron didn't change Ridley Scott's concept of the Alien. Cameron used Scott's film as a bible and made the transition from Alien to Aliens seamless, and both films occupy the same universe. The only change made was the life cycle of the Alien, when Cameron introduced the concept of the "queen." Scott had deleted the scene from the first film showing a different life cycle, so that may as well not exist. H.R. Giger himself said he loved the Alien queen design.

Alien (1979)- Chest burst scene.Stands alone as the most frightening/disturbing scene in movie history.Never been more scared at any moment watching any movie then when i first seen this scene.Totally unexpected, I couldn't believe what i was watching.

Aliens (1986)- Ripley elevator scene (saving Newt and confront queen.)IMO the most intense scene in movie history.by this point in the movie I had already soiled my pants.

Prometheus-(2012)-Will it live up to the first 2 masterpieces?

I hope this stands up to the expectations like Alien did all those years ago, I saw Alien as a young teenager on the Big Screen- not much has come close to this thought provoking sci-fi storyline, though The Shining did keep me on the edge of my seat at the time of release all those years ago (though this has nothing to do with Alien).

@2ndadmendmutt lol Agreed - Alien was the only movie to ever give me nightmares and I too saw it when I was like 10. Couldn't sleep that night every creak or limb brushing up against the window outside scared the crap out of me. An amazing film - both are top of my list to this day.

I've got a feeling that, if there really are no Xenos in this, then the contamination will have something to do with turning one or more of the humans into the 'pilot'.

yeah well atleast it's all in the past, now we can hopefully look foward to something new and exciting again. Notice that Noomi rapace's character got the exact same hairstyle as Ellen Ripley, Riddley Scott must realy like that kinda hair:)

@elchido2012 I think Alien and Aliens both inhabit the same universe(albeit 57 years apart) but deal with two different stories. Scott's is a gothic haunted house story set in a spaceship, and Cameron's is an alien combat story as well as a story about a mother/daughter bond. But it kept with the themes of suspense and terror that the first film had, just using them differently. The two films are alike, but different, so comparisons fall short. Alien does have the benefit of coming first.
