Many people don't know or can't see the worsening effects for the middle and lower class. I haven’t had a raise in seven years. Gas, milk, eggs, bread and much more has continued to go up. Gas is the worst, having to spend half my pay on gas just to get to work does not leave much room to pay all the other bills. Pay stays the same everything else goes up.

All of this is sad and shockingly true. Globalization is a prime driver where poverty will become more evenly distributed around the world. Technology is also a prime driver of income inequality and the elimination of jobs especially for the poorly educated. The challenge: Both globalization and technology can not be stopped.

My father told me the story of how one day during the Depression he and my grandfather were working on a wagon while watching other people walk down the road to go fishing. My father asked grandpa why they couldn't go fishing also. Grandpa picked him up (he was about 11 I think) and sat him on the wagon tongue and told him that when things are bad those people will be depending on the government to feed them. But eventually what the government can give they can take away. He told dad it's better to learn to take care of yourself than to depend on others, that way what you have is yours and it can't be taken from you, even if it's just the ability to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Point taken.
