Gorr was a vengeful galactic killer who sought the extinction of all gods, coming to be known throughout the galaxy as the God Butcher. Once a devout and peaceful man, Gorr lost his faith after the death of his daughter. Enraged at how the gods belittled his suffering, Gorr happened upon the All-Black the Necrosword. With his life entwined with the blade, Gorr embarked on a campaign of slaughter against the gods, while seeking Eternity to grant his wish to bring about their extinction. Requiring the Bifrost Bridge to open the Gates of Eternity, Gorr kidnapped the children of New Asgard to lure Thor to him, intending to steal Stormbreaker, which could summon the Bifrost. Confronted in the Shadow Realm, Gorr took Stormbreaker, proceeding to seek out Eternity, where he was confronted again by Thor and the Mighty Thor, who shattered the Necrosword. Managing to reach Eternity, the dying Gorr was convinced by Thor to use his wish to bring his daughter back, whom Gorr entrusted her to Thor, dying as a content man.
Thor: Love and Thunder is a 2022 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. The film is a sequel to Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. It is the twenty-ninth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the thirteenth installment of Phase Four. The film was released on July 8, 2022.
The film is written and directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as Brunnhilde/King Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Taika Waititi as Korg, with Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor.
The film finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced — a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to Thor’s surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjølnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Gorr, the last of his people, spends his days striving to survive on a barren desert with his daughter. He prays to his god Rapu for help, but his daughter soon dies of starvation. Just as he begins to hear a voice calling out to him in the distance, Gorr discovers an oasis where he finds Rapu, who had killed the latest wielder of an ancient weapon known as All-Black the Necrosword. Rapu makes fun of Gorr for his helplessness and refuses to provide any assistance. Feeling betrayed, Gorr claims the Necrosword and beheads him, and vows for the elimination of all gods.
Gorr the God Butcher is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, Gorr first appeared in Thor: God of Thunder #2 (January 2013). Gorr the God Butcher has been described as one of Marvel's most notable and powerful supervillains, as well as one of Thor's greatest foes. The character made his live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), portrayed by Christian Bale
Gorr grew up on a nameless barren planet where earthquakes, lack of water, and wild animals are common. No gods helped his people, but they still trusted blindly in their faith. When his mother, mate, and children died, he thought gods could not exist, and because of that, he was outcast by his tribe. When he learned gods did exist but did not help those in need, such as his dying family, he vowed to kill them all. He then acquired All-Black the Necrosword from Knull after witnessing Knull in combat with a golden god.[6][7] He eventually finds young Thor Odinson on Earth.
