What is AMH? Fertility doctor Natalie Crawford, MD gives a quick overview of AMH (antimullerian hormone) and ovarian reserve.

Quick facts:
AMH can change month to month.
It is a blood test.
Low AMH is associated with fewer eggs to freeze or retrieve with IVF and an early onset of ovarian failure (menopause).
Low AMH does not cause infertility to make it harder to get pregnant naturally.

Understand your body and your fertility!

can AMH tell you approximately how soon someone will go into menopause? Like if your AMH is very low, you can expect menopause in the next year?

I have long cycles averaging 47-49 days and just got blood work done. My AMH came back high which was a 11, but all my other hormones with normal. The only other one that obgyn mentioned was TSH which was 4.2 but still normal. What should I do? What do you think I should investigate?

Dr. Crawford, i am 34 year old and my AMH is 0.7. I understand it is pretty low, but besides that, I don't have any other problems, I will go to check my fallopian tubes next month just to assure they are passable. Do you think this AMH level would be a problem for getting pregnant? All my other hormones are in the normal ranges. I am really worried. I know there is no way to increase these levels so I would like to assure i am doing the best in the time i have left with my eggs! :) Thank you so much in advance!

Generally if the women in my family have been fertile in their 30s does that mean I should also be fertile in my 30s?
