I know this is a stupid question but why is the second x always positive?

Just curious why did he start with -3? when you're doing quadratic functions you can pick whatever number you want to start out with in the X column? And it says to plot points- how long do you have to plot points for? He did 7, why 7 in his first problem?

I know how to plot points but i don't know how it got there😂😂 i didn't pay attention to my teacher so i decided I'll go watch a video about it (as always khan academy) and I REPEATED IT ABOUT 5 TIMES OR 6 NOW? And i still don't get it.. 😕😢💀 It's my first subject later

y=x^2-x-6
replace it with -2. the answer is -8 not zero!!!

I don't get it.
Nothing's wrong with how you teach us.. I just didn't paid attention to my teacher.. I was so sleepy.. And now I JUST PULLED AN ALL NIGHTER cause I can't sleep😢😂💀 i did nothing but read webtoons then decided to study for math since my first subject is math and NOW I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS TOPIC
