Well, they strapped the tank to the stand, but they forgot to strap the stand to the ground!

It couldn't reach the clouds...
So it made the clouds

Well... Elon wasn't kidding when he said "up to failure" 😲

Other companies: that was not nominal
Elon Musk: testing to failure, seems nominal to me.

Welders: SN7 wont make it to the hop test.
SN7: Hold my raptor engine.

It looks like the stand went along for the first 3m hop.

Seems alright to me. Slap some flex tape on and it’ll be fine.

I personally think that counts as a first hop 😆

Great idea. Test to failure and the primary failure points remain for inspection. SpaceX is probably building computational models of every component and validating/training the models on the data.

Loosing the fear to fail and then learning volumes from every fail is why every other aerospace company on the planet is in a distant second place right now to SpaceX.

It actually stayed together surprisingly well

That's gotta be above 8 bars, the gut meter says. Pressure was so high it lifted the entire assembly several meters.

I think spot walking around the debris was the best part. It didn't take long for SpaceX to find a use for their newest toy!

Freezing them with liquid nitrogen; that's one way to kill all those weeds. I wonder if Zeus made it?

Being that it is made of 304 stainless I'm a little surprised it didn't test higher than 7.6 bar/110psi. It didn't look like the tank itself failed but maybe a hatch or connection.

It'll buff out...don't worry 'bout it.
