Up until 2.26 it's anthemic to a lifetime of graft that invariably ends in disappointment but when the drums kick in the psychological and emotional trajectory alters to the ascendant and I'm fighting back tears. Brilliant tune. Mark Knopfler is my favourite musician, an accomplished guitar stylist and songwriter. I've been to see him several times and you're always guaranteed a fantastic concert from him. Class and style, he's a rare one.

I once met an elderly gent who was telling me about his life. His wife had died. He said this was 'their song' & it made his eyes well up with tears. Every time I hear it, mine do the same. I think of him every time I hear it.

Mark Knopfler, the generous, gentleman genius. One of the best guitarists of all time yet his songs are filled with dominating sax and steel guitar solos from virtuoso musicians. He's not afraid to let others shine as well as, or to even outdo himself in songs that he wrote.

I met Mark in a bar once back in the day. I watched him play all night then went up to him when he’s finished his set. After chatting a while he gave me his guitar pick as a keep-sake.
30 years later and we’re married with 6 beautiful kids and I could’ve be happier. You know what, I’ve still got that pick.
