Why does this song bring tears to the eyes of a 75 year old man every time I play it?? Loved it in the movie when it came out and love it still.

This song was played on my 11 year old sons funeral. I am a big fan of Dire Straits and that was my son too. I miss him so much.

Like any artful masterpiece this ballad never gets old. This song inspired me throughout my end stage heart failure from 42 to 52, when every breath had become a laborious task. This song gave me hope that blissful peace and rest wasn't far away, making peace with dying is the most liberating thought I've ever had, incredibly I was one of the very few extremely fortunate ones who received a heart even though I don't feel like "a young man sitting in an old man's bar waiting for my chance to die" anymore, this song still moves me in ways which are hard to comprehend, and my adopted heart cherishes this masterpiece as much as my old worn out and discarded one. Thank you Mark you'll never know how many people you have helped with your unbelievable talent and brilliant humility. Bless you my man! Peace and love to everyone reading this comment.

There is so many egotistical people in the music business, who are not half the creative musical genius that Mark Knopfler is, where as Mark is just a level headed working class guy who’s music has touched so many people, including myself, I hope he knows how loved and respected he is.

All these comments from people who lost loved ones. My heart goes out to you. My heart is hugging yours. You are not alone.

My ma went home for the last month of her life and on November 11th (2023) her ashes were scattered in the Firth of Clyde, close to where her mother's ashes had been scattered 20 years ago.
I feel raw emotions listening to this and cry an awful lot.... but in a good way.
I'm so happy she got home.
Beautiful tune.

So proud to have been born in Newcastle upon Tyne. And so was my daughter, in the amazing RVI, who fought hard for her life against all the odds and is now a sassy, hard headed stubborn and confident young girl. Just like the city - she never gives in!

Like Money For Nothing, Brothers In Arms, Telegraph Road and Sultans Of Swing this is a timeless classic.

This is one of those pieces of music that makes you nostalgic for a place that never really was, but every time you hear it you get the belief it can be again. It's a feeling not a piece of music, I can't put anything else as a comparison

Played at every Newcastle United home match as the Team disperse on entry. Koppfler was recently honoured by the club with his own shirt with his name on it as the fans unveiled a massive banner, 'United! Brothers in Arms!'

I am seeing a lot of comments of people having heard this at a funeral of a beloved one. But I am here because I want this played on my funeral, whenever my time might be.
