The reason a dropped feather makes the drip leaf fall is because a dropped item is a mob/entity and mobs/entity's make a drip leaf fall and a anvils not a mob

Dripleaf only detects entities and items were entities. That was the function of Dripleaf it's not triggering to any block

Jordan doesn't know that normal blocks can't push down dripleafs but entities can

So just drop down any kind of item entity like the anvil but instead placing it down.. you can just drop it on the dripleaf and it will work!
