It's Okay To SLOW DOWN as an Artist

In a world that wants us all to move very fast, there’s something very gratifying to me about slowing down.

At first, I was afraid to slow down. To not be moving super fast or churning out work, it feels like if you stop, you’ll fail.

Worked a season at Six Flags as a caricature artist. These were large, extremely detailed, inked and airbrush painted. We had to crank those out in under 8mins or we didn’t get our commission. Ever since, my warped view was if it took me longer than 10-15 mins to finish a complete work, I was a failure. It wasn’t until I saw a comicbook inker working in real-time just how wrong I was. The panicked pursuit of profit will mess you up for years.

It's nice sentiment to see right now. I'm involved in quite a few areas of the arts, and when it comes to drawing I still view everything as something I have to present as my best work to the world, though I have been trying hard to unlearn that. Going to draw a page full of bad smiley faces that I'll never post! Thanks for this video

Great message! I have been working daily on something for a while and it works. I’ve also recently slowed down on my posting (mostly because I’ve become more business building oriented) and while I like to create to create, I feel like I’m liking the images I make more now that I’ve slowed down.
