Minoxidil for Frontal Baldness - Restore Your Hairline?

One of the biggest problems men with pattern hair loss have to deal with is a receding frontal hairline.

If this is you, one of the first things you will probably be recommended is minoxidil.

But can minoxidil work for this kind of hair loss? Can it actually restore your previous hairline?

Today, we’ll be giving you a very clear answer and breaking down the science behind this very important topic.

After watching, you’ll know exactly what results to expect if you’re considering or are actually using minoxidil.

Stay tuned.

-----------------------------------

Hello, and welcome to today’s video.

So the million dollar question we’ll be looking at it today: can minoxidil reverse frontal hair loss?

Now first things first: minoxidil works best for hair loss in the crown.

Same with finasteride.

Works best for the crown.

Now that doesn’t mean that Minoxidil can’t work for the front.

It can, but within limits.

Let me explain what I mean.

MINOXIDIL AND THE HAIRLINE

When we talk about frontal hair loss, we need to distinguish two things.

There’s complete baldness, and then there’s thinning.

So when I am talking about complete baldness, I’m referring to your new forehead.

Your forehead starts very low when you’re a teenager.

And it keeps on getting higher and higher as your hair loss progresses.

Typically it starts expanding at the temples, and begins to form an M shaped pattern.

And in advanced baldness, after the temples have moved sufficiently back, the middle part also recedes.

And then before you know it, you’re a Norwood 4.

So minoxidil can’t restore your forehead to what it was.

But here’s the thing. This balding process doesn’t happen overnight.

You don’t go to bed one night and wake up in the morning and the forehead has expanded.

There’s stages to this process.

A gradient.

Where the hairs get progressively finer and sparser.

As the affected area goes from completely normal to completely miniaturized.

So, while a part of the scalp is still going through this miniaturization process, BUT HASN’T YET GONE COMPLETELY BALD, minoxidil can help.

For example, have a look at this photo.

Now this is moderately advanced hair loss, around a Norwood 3 to 4.

We can imagine in the teenage years the hairline being something like this:

That’s never coming back, not with all the minoxidil in the world.

His new, best case scenario hairline is this:

Again, he can use all the minoxidil in the world, but it’s never gonna get lower that that.

All the scalp below this blue line is now completely bald.

And minoxidil will do nothing with it.

But this is the area where minoxidil can make a real difference:

This area has thinned considerably, and the remaining hairs are in various stages of the miniaturization process.

But he still has hair here.

And this is where minoxidil can give the best results: halting the hair loss and improving density.

MINOXIDIL RESPONSE RATES

Now, as we’ve discussed in other videos, about one in 2 minoxidil users will see regrowth in thinning areas.

The other 50% are advised to quit after they’ve been on it for 4 months without results.

And, for those that get results, treatment has to continue indefinitely.

As soon as it stops, any new hairs will fall back out again.

I should clarify that this 50% response rate applies to minoxidil monotherapy. So for men that are using minoxidil only.

Combining minoxidil with other treatments, be they topical or systemic, generally gives better
response rates.

It is a clinical fact. The crown gets better benefits but also benefit at the front too. Great video

Fortunately, I had grown my teenage hairline using Minoxidil 5%, Dutasteride once a week, Microneedling twice a month, Biotin Supplement, Collagen and Hyaluronic Supplement, and lastly, a Mild Shampoo (Baby Shampoo). I am very happy with the result. I did this since June 2020 and the result is satisfactory.

there was a study showing that after you quit using minoxidil (only), you will only be able to retain 10% of the hair you gained from treatment. If you did microneedling and minoxidil together but later then you stopped using minoxidil but continued microneedling, you would be able to retain 57% of the hair you gained from treatment

I've had an inherent semi-Jack Nicholson hairline since I was a kid. Since my hair is about as long as the presenter here, fortunately, parting my hair in the middle hides that, but still, I wish my hear line was more foreward. Thanks for this interesting video.

I'm not using finasteride considering all those questionable side effects, sticking only to minoxidil, if It works, it works, If don't, well I look good in a bald head too

Micro needling 2 x week , topical Rogaine (Once a day) and ketacozone shampoo (nizoral) that's my stack, it's built for longevity and limited to little or no side effects

24 male. European descent, but very curly/coarse/dry hair. For the past ~7 years (since last year of high school), I’ve spent some time wearing my hair pretty long on top (undercut Afro, undercut top-knot/man-bun), and I think I’ve damaged my hair follicles. Long curly dry hair gets knotted very easily, and with all that time spent picking my Afro, drying to get my hair un-knotted in the shower, I’m afraid it’s taken a toll on my follicles.

Hairline isn’t as low as it was when I was 16-17, before I started wearing it long. It’s not quite as full on the top imo, and it sheds wayyy more on top than it does on the sides (even though they’re the same length).

I don’t think it’s due to my genetics but rather just my hairstyles, mild traction alopecia basically. Can buzzing my head and getting on minoxidil restore this (since it’s not due in to dht)? Thx

Just stick to finasteride dermarolling with (saw palmetto capsaicin nettle pumpkin seed mix) + (minoxidil) forget all about the shampoos and all the rest. Just get a good multivitamin. Good luck.

Been using it for over a year now.
Minoxidil does very little, if anything For me.
Depends on the person.

Two years on Finasteride, 6 months on minoxidil twice a day, microneedle once a week, biotin, saw palmetto, pumpkin seeds, marine collagen, shower filter, bamboo extract and scalp massage have done nothing for my front hairline. It did help my crown, only after doubling up the minoxidil. Two FULL droppers worth, twice a day. The two-bit 1ml dosage is ridiculously low. I NEVER had any side effects.

Just use minoxidil, finasteride, dermaroller, and biotin 🙏

As a minoxidil user, i would like to ask a question. Why can we apply a permenant dht blocker to hairs? Like with a some sort of injection, can we atleast block the dht that goes to head?

Idk if it's just me but something that really helped me out too was juicing
I decided to fast for 2 weeks & consume nothing but veggie/fruit juice
I had tried Finasteride for almost half a year
DHT blocking shampoo & conditioner for about 3 months
Been using Minoxidil & dermaroller for 2 years
Nothing was really working
I had actually given up, but the same month I quit doing anything about my balding & I started juicing - I noticed something going on
It had dawned on me that maybe what I needed was for my body to have the right minerals, vitamins, & nutrients
Not gonna lie, the past few years I had been eating junk
You think you're invincible when you're in your 20s
But now I'm gonna be 30 in a couple of years & realized I had to start taking care of myself & my body
I should probably mention that by the end of the 2nd week I restarted applying Minoxidil & using a dermaroller to keep the little I had regained
But I learned an important lesson
Don't skip past the fresh produce section at the grocery store
Btw I think there's some cheap juicing machines on Amazon for like around $40
Idk if this will work for you, but worth a try if you're out of options
Veggies/fruits I made into juice:
-Apples (Gala or Fuji)
-Beets
-Carrots
-Celery
-Collard Greens
-Cucumber
-Ginger
-Kale
-Lemon (or Orange, or both)
-Parsley
-Spinach
-Sweet Potato/Yam
-Turmeric

I've had more regrowth on the temples from microneedling than Minoxidil which did nothing at all for me. Amazing to think that after nearly 40 years of it coming on the market Minoxidil is still being used as one of the big two when it's effects for hairgrowth on most men are mediocre at best/or no regrowth at all.

For 1 year, I used Minoxidil on the front of my hair and on the top area.
As a result, not a single hair came out on their front part, but still there was new hair and thickening in my crown area. However, after she stopped using it, she poured back 3 times what she had removed until that day. If you've never started, don't ever start. A waste of both your money and time.

So there's nothing I can do? I can at best stop my shedding in the middle but I'm stuck looking like an old man forever? I'm only 20 and already Norwood 3, I don't know what to do.
