My sister who had stopped by my house overheard your comment about the lack of brains and modern design. She was SO pissed off. I loved it! Thank you for your comment!

I swear I have pstd from drilling so many failed stem holes over the years. I make exotic style peace pipes with pencil thin stems at 10 inches usually, I drive the bit through my stem wood and leave the bit in and put it straight into my wood lathe and mill it down it's a pain in the ass because of the failures when I'm so close to finishing or the bit sealing inside of the stem and not being able to remove it but when I succeed it's so satisfying and it's sanded starting with 250 grit and ending with 1500 grit so it's glass smooth.

from my own attempts at it, yeah it is hard. I've been waiting for a drill press before I do another try. Awesome honest vid.

Try out using wood burl in the future. The grain comes out wonderful, and it lasts far longer in terms of use. The twisted grain of a wood burl allows for the heating and cooling with a rarer chance of cracking over time.

I enjoyed this video. I also thought of cherry for my first pipe. I don't know if it will be a long one though.

"Pack a bowl" eh...totally a "tobacco" smoking term for sure haha.
Welcome to Victoria.

Bradford pear wood is also good for pipe-making. The contents of the heartwood form a heat-resistant sort of putty on the inside of the bowl after a few smokes. The grain also looks quite fetching.

If you don't want it to wear out, make a paste of coffee powder (I use Nescafe Classic Coffee), sweetened creamer and some chocolate powder. Put some water and mix it. Make sure it's not too watery cause you want it to stick to the pot. Put it inside the pot and let it dry for 1 day. Make sure not to block the smoke exit hole. You should be able to overcome the wear and tear issue.

I've had to do that for a few things, like sword handles for fun and I use my drill with a level on top, clamp the wood level, drill a bit, turn the wood half or 1/4 turn and repeat. I had about 1/16 in margin of error on 9 inches of wood so not bad at all. as long as you watch that level and keep turning the wood to limit veering too far one way.

Cherry wood is a common alternative to the briar wood that most pipes are usually made with, so you made a good choice there. My channel is mostly about European style pipes and pipe tobacco, but now I'm severely tempted to try to make a peace pipe for myself!

I wasnt really interested in making a peace pipe. I found you more interesting to watch. My pipe im making is Manzanita wood and mine are made completely by hand, no power tools what so ever. I find it more satisfying when i can carve, build and make things without power.

What type of the "drill bit" are you using ? I've heard it is about a foot long, but how "wide" is it ? 0, 5cm ? or? (sorry about my english) Thanks! :)
