Can't tell how many times I've accidentally clicked Visual Studio instead of Visual Studio Code, and waited forever for it to load only to close it immediately.

I don't need all that shit. I just need it to not be a nightmare to set up a project in the first place!

I decided to try Rider about a year ago and now I'll probably never go back to Visual Studio.

Also if you're programming in C++, it has console run environment built right in.

Best definition for an IDE.. Everything you need for development built right in!

*still uses VS code* its lightweight and can run on potatoes.... it also has some extentions like code runner that allow you to run the language younare using without needing the compleate interpreter or compiler (i use Ruby yesterday within VS code while the ruby interpreter on my computer just cashed each time it was opened... (only use the extentions of what you need)

You forgot to mention that while they aren’t really cool anymore, schools do still use them. Visual Studio still supports wysiwyg gui development tools like winforms and wpf.

been a .NET developer for 13 years, I'm beginning to see the light regarding VS Code now that I've ditched Windows for PopOs for my personal use. Visual Studio is bloated compared to VS Code, as are the Windows 10/11 operating systems, and many developers likely won't be using any of the features you've mentioned. I still use Visual Studio at work though, WCF api projects and other Windows'y things.

used to be a vs gamer, tried my best to switch to vsc for as much of my workflow as possible but C# in vsc... something just feels wrong

and now i've become a neovim gamer instead, which is ironic, because i'm using vsc's LSP for C# and doing a lot more work to get the basics to work well enough to use it daily at work

i want to use arch btw

I’m confused, is this supposed to be sarcastic? So is visual studio good or bad? 😳

Now if it could actual keep real time tracking of directories and files in the the solution explorer. When I add a file from outside it doesn’t auto add it to the project. I have to click include item in project.

Everyone has tools they like, they can deal with, and they hate. Visual Studio is all 3 of those for me. I prefer to use VSCode or a Jetbrains IDE.

“Built right in” is the reason I prefer VS Code to IntelliJ. “Built right in” is so slow and heavy.
