Like the idea of using Visual Studio Code, but don't like the idea of Microsoft telemetry or their proprietary license and don't want to build it yourself, VSCodium is perfect for you.

i thought it was VS Copium and was like "ah yes, this is gonna be a VIM fork"

I was always under the impression that VSCode was a cut down version of Visual Studio, which I've used for C#/Unity development for a long time. So I never really looked into VSCode at all. I used GVim for any single file development needs, but I'm going to give this one a go, can't object to MIT license and less tracking is nice.

I saw lyra project from UE5 examples.
How did you manage to run UE5 with vs code?
What do you do when you need to build project from ide?
(I'm using win10 but i guess steps should be same)

Are there still 400 different esoteric config options that all have to be disabled if I don't want boxes full of bullshit popping up over whatever I'm typing on every single keypress?

does this work well with Unity because I'd like to use it?

Been using it for 2 months now and its pretty awesome, same as vscode, was really easy to migrate my settings and extensions from vscode, and added an alias on bashrc to use code instead of codium when launching from terminal.

so now how do you stop windows telemetry from affecting the code inside vscodium?

Since I moved from Visual Studio to Rider I'm not changing to another editor. I tried VSCode but it is not my thing.

Thanks for reminding the difference of license difference between product and source code.

I just tried it and it's opening much faster than Atom, apparently. Didn't expect it to be that good! That's a pretty good replacement for Atom it seems. Thanks for the tip. 👍

you can use the official microsoft extension server by changing the settings in product.json

I used codium for about a year or so... pretty much experienced everything exactly as described here. Eventually I got tired of the extension thing on new installs and really don't care that much about the MS side of things in this case so went to VSCode instead.

The deal breaker with VSCodium (as well as similar projects like Code in arch) for me is the lack of syncing capability. I use a lot of different computers, and like all of my settings to just automatically sync.

What if all other editor creators convert their plugins to work with vscodium?
Also.
You should use light theme on your tutorials. Some of us are using smaller screens to watch your videos. Dark screens do not display as clearly as light themes do. A large computer monitor may (in fact it does) display dark theme better than small ones do. Besides, the brightness of a large monitor can be adjusted if it is too bright.
