⚔️ Your video was a big help. I was going to replace the charcoal canister on my 1994 Toyota pickup but after watching your video I've decided to just bypass the canister completely. Three canisters have already filled up with gas, the last time the gas went into my air filter till it was completely soggy.
WE'LL DONE! 👍👍👍👍👍

OPPS! bottom line is fresh air inlet should have a check valve to stop out gassing of fumes. Far end sits in a hole in the frame to avoid splashing. Inside the little box on top are 2 lines one in from the fuel tank and one out to the engine. (spark ported) the vapor inlet line is from the fuel tank and should also have a back flow check valve. Fumes out of the tank only (heating and cooling = expansion contraction. air enters the tank via a one way valve in the gas cap during contraction.) the last line is the purge line. Inside the little box on top is a pop off valve that responds to pressure differential (that's why so costly) this port is also closed on a cold engine by means of the BSV. when the engine begins to warm up it opens allowing suction to the pop off valve. under on throttle condition the tanks vapors are purged. when the pop off valve fails pressure in the fuel tank shoves gasses into the canister until it is fowled, also into the intake. This doesn't stop until the engine cools and the BSV closes. THE FIX. Get a generic NP66 canister 3 pipes on top. 1 fresh air *AIR, 1 tank vapors *TANK & 1 purge *PURGE. Confirm fresh air line check valve is working, replace with fuel safe ck vlv if needed. & connect to canister (AIR). Confirm tank line ck vlv is working & connect and clamp to canister (TANK). now comes the good part, the purge line is too small to attach to the cannister. SO, attach section of fuel safe hose that does fit. Next is the work around using a standard GM purge valve clamp both ends of this section from canister to the valve, its under pressure at times. (GM purge valve is a free standing disc with larger in and out and a smaller vacuum control line port.) install it inline between the canister and the BSV. you'll have to use an adapter ( I shoved smaller BSV line inside the larger line and secured it with a spring clamp) the vent control line to the GM purge valve also needs to be spark ported. I tee'd into the "P" line on the EGR VM. cold engine no flow hot engine off no vacuum = no flow. and TAH DA you can work as advertised and pass emissions.

Got a question from a reader about parts for retro fit of OEM replacement of canister. The refit parts are as follows. GM style purge valve circa late 70's early 80's A/C Delco part # 214-2294 about $35.00 Dorman part # 994-093 a few bucks less. The canister is a generic unit. Prices seem to be all over the place and I'm not sure why. part # 911-261 or 215-153 GM #'s 17056542 or 17113148 prices run from mid $30.00 to $90.00. I went with the FEXON brand more due to price than any technical research. some cans show a cover over the fresh air inlet. I believe this is removable and the fresh air line will fit on. Be sure the fresh air hose has its check valve, factory had one for a reason. If missing get one, without it the tank will constantly dump vapors. Easy to check blow into the top of the line, no air should pass. sucking on the line should pass air. suggest use a hand held vacuum pump to test inlet air so you don't get a mouth full of yuk.

This is really helpful. I'm in the middle of a head gasket swap and I'm strongly considering getting rid of that mess so I can do spark plug work.

This part is now made of unobtanium. For those that are wondering, that's why it needs deleted. However you MUST leave the bottom line OPEN- it controls the transmission and will create a huge issue if capped. My truck was bogging down and the tank had incredible air pressure. I also had a stalling issue. Removing this can fixed the problems. Thanks for the idea!

Hey! Can you please tell me where the purge valve is located? I can’t find any information on it thank you!

Did you do this also on a land cruiser 4.5?

It already doesn't work on mine so might as well. Also the vacuum nipple on the sensor broke off .

sorry PS the generic canister is larger and the mount bracket requires a bit of modification. I cut a strip of aluminum flashing about 1" wide and give or take 8" long. and bridged the gap in the circumference.

Hey, do you get better or worse mpg with it venting to air vs proper working canister?

My mom and her boyfriend are from Hawaii, watch your videos, talk of them all the time and she’s visiting for the month and would love to meet you. I don’t know if this is the right place or way to contact you but if nothing else I wanted to share that you have fans in Hawaii!

Hey one the hose that goes to the back of the engine how did you plug it ? And does it make it different if you don’t

Those fumes will build up in the tank and with time...too much pressure has nasty consequences, , i saw one whose tank always spat out fuel when the cap was opened sue to the pressure contained inside after deleting the fume camister system.. be careful

That keeps you from smelling gas fumes coming in the cab that’s why they put that on their this summer you will wish it was on back on 😊

Sup mannn went to seward yesterday macdonald morning incoming tide caught 11 fish i was with some homies. 11 sockeyes was pretty decent spent 4 hours there and all of suddenly i went to spring creek 5 minutes I Snagged 6 sockeyes under 2 minutes at spring creek big ass ones too 10 pound sockeye my brother snagged another 7 pounder sockeye at the beach. We decided we were tired and decided to go home untill i had a gut feeling at spring creek, saw few people catch so i happily went down and my first cast i hooked onto a pretty big sockeye the sockeyes we caught a mcdonald were a little bit smaller than the ones at mcdonald but i had fun i was called "the lucky boy" after i snagged 7 sockeyes under 3 minutes the first one got off the cool thing was people were catching very few and suddenly i came by and snagged these big 5+ pounder sockeyes! (the second one was so big that it kept peelin drag and my drag was set heavy! it was near 30 inches! And do you want to see the sockeye?
