You're the only result I found that showed how to troubleshoot the purge valve instead of suggesting you throw money at a new one and hoping that was the cause of the code. Thanks for the great content.

Good video, no long commentary about something that has nothing to do with what you're showing. It was a great help. TY.

Thanks, that was great! If you don't want to wait for the car to warm up, you can remove the electrical connector on the valve and clip a wire to each of your battery terminals. Carefully touch the other ends to the electrical contacts on the valve. If the valve is good, you'll hear a clicking sound as the solenoid moves.

I HAVE A 05 MERCURY MARINER. USING YOUR VIDEO HERE AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S FROM ANOTHER TYPE OF VEHICLE, I LOCATED MY PURGE VALVE AND I WILL PERFORM THIS EXACT TEST. IF IT'S BAD I WILL REPLACE IT. MOST OF ALL YOUR VIDEO HERE WILL SAVE ME THE TROUBLE OF GOING UNDERNEATH THE CAR NEAR THE GAS TANK AND CHANGING THE VENT SOLENOID VALVE WHICH MAY STILL BE GOOD. IF THE PURGE VALVE TURNS OUT TO BE BAD. THEN I KNOW IT'S NOT THE VENT VALVE UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS. IT HELPS ELIMINATE A HEADACHE AND IT HELPS PEOPLE KEEP UP ON THE MAINTENANCE OF THEIR CARS. WHO HAS TIME TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND YOU GOT TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE ALL DAY WHEN YOU NEED TO USE YOUR CAR DAILY. AND IT'S A TOSS OF THE DICE IF THE MECHANIC IS HONEST OR NOT..

Awesome video! Thank you! Concise, to the point, and great camera placement! This will really help me either confirm or mark off why I’m getting an evap code.

this video is super helpful, thanks for explaining how each part worked and how the whole system is kinda put together. it really helped me get an understanding of what’s going wrong with my car

Most vehicles are not designed to open the purge valve when idling. It behaves like a vacuum leak and can cause a rough idle. Usually the purge valve opens when you’re driving. It’s a good idea to replace the vent valve at the same time. They’re usually right next to each other, and it’s not uncommon for both of them to go bad around the same time. Good video.

Thank you so much my car keeps saying I have a Evap leak and we have tried 2 different gas caps so it’s not my gas cap so just trying to figure it out on our own so we don’t spend a ton of money getting it fixed in a garage

Good check, but note that GM does a evaporate test on cold start and passes vacuum to the evaporation system. If the system does not hold vac or is not vented quickly on Vent, or build vac, codes can be set.

I would recommend doing more test. In my case the purge valve was doing what this video mentioned, but when I did a smoke test, there was smoke coming out of the purge valve and this test won't help if your trying to find a leak.

Good tip. Unfortunately, on my 2008 E90 (BMW) it is located underneath next to the gas tank. It's doable, but somewhat a pain unless you have a lift or ramps. This is great info for other cars however...Well done.
