Having been cut from his professional football team, down-and-out athlete Terry Brogan (Jeff Bridges) is in desperate need of money. Crooked nightclub owner and bookie Jake Wise (James Woods) offers Terry a hefty sum to go to Mexico and find his girlfriend, Jessie Wyler (Rachel Ward). Terry cannot turn the offer down. When Terry locates Jessie, the two fall in love. Terry reports that he failed to find her; but Jake sends someone else. Terry and Jessie's love must endure unexpected twists.

This is the quintessential getting dumped song. Unfortunately when a woman has stopped loving you, there's absolutely nothing you can do that's going to change that. Nothing. No matter how much you beg, no matter how much you try to prove your love to her, When she doesn't love you anymore, you might as well just try to accept it. I feel like this song, one more night, and that's all are about the same woman. If you are here because you have recently been dumped, just know it will get better, but the absolute worst thing you can do is beg her to take you back, or go to ridiculous and embarrassing lengths to get her to forgive you or whatever the case may be. Give yourself time to heal before trying to find someone new.

Hearing the way Phil Collins sings this song with his entire heart and soul hits me hard every time.. this song really makes you FEEL it and I could honestly listen to it 300 times in a row and never ever get sick of it. Against All Odds is hands down one of the best songs ever made and nobody could convince me otherwise! Phil Collins is a legend and his voice & song writing skills are astonishing❤❤


PS - Only complaint I have about this specific video is the timing of the lyrics. The lyrics don't pop up on the screen until that part of the song has already begun and for people trying to learn the words it would be extremely helpful if the lyrics were timed even just 1-2 seconds BEFORE each line in the song plays so the viewer has enough time to see what the words are first and sing along. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed that bugged me a little bit. 🙃
