The Rolex Submariner Is Dissapointing

The Rolex Submariner 114060 is dissapointing. Maybe I should have watied for the 124060 haha. I do think this might be the best dive watch ever made.

Here's my take:
I'm pretty much in the same situation as you, having owned a 124060 sub for about 16 months now. The high of finally owning a sub faded after about 3 months and I was left wondering "is this it?". The next step was regretting the 3 TAG Heuer's from my collection that I sold to fund the sub. But here's the thing: if I hadn't reached the milestone that is the sub, I would have never been able to fully enjoy my other watches, because the dream and the "what if" questions would have always been there. Yeah, I regret selling those 3 TAG's, but at the same time I had no problem selling them before I actually got the sub. And like you, I have g-shocks, seikos, a hamilton, a vintage TAG from the 80s and a Cartier. I actually enjoy them a lot more now after getting the sub. Even though the sub did not blow me away, even though I'm not wearing it as much as I'd like given the price I paid, I feel like it's the anchor of my collection. I can now branch out and wear whatever crazy watch I want because the sub will always be there, boring but timeless.

PS: and if you found all of the above ridiculous, such is the disease called watch collecting.

I couldn’t disagree more. My Subdate is a joy to put on every morning. It is a reward to myself for years of working overtime, sometimes three jobs at once to raise and feed a family, sacrificing for others. No one notices watches unless they are watch geeks or thieves. No one cares, every one has there face in there phone. I carry a G23 on a side holster which prints so bad it’s obviously a gun. No one ever noticing it or even cares. When it comes to my 126610LN I refer to the movie Full Metal Jacket.

If anyone ever is to ask my what that bulge is on my hip I’ll just tell them it’s my colostomy bag do you want to look?

I would only buy a Rolex that people can easily recognise and say that it’s a Rolex and think I’m rich. Otherwise the watch isn’t worth it. Never buy an expensive watch (ie anything above $15k) just because it’s for personal gratification), this logic makes no sense

I LOVE mine and I love owing the no date Sub. I will wear others including a Seiko but the Sub is my special!

i am wearing my 114060 as i write this. i absolutely love this watch, in fact, it has exceeded my expectations. but i never got it to be noticed or for any of the superficial materialistic reasons you mention in the video. i personally love the looks and history of the one ever notices the watch and i like it that way

However, they haven’t changed much since the beginning of the sub is what it makes it valuable as a legendary icon. Like Porsche 911, minor revision every iteration, it might be boring, but it keeps its identity.
For sub, I prefer the vintage models, the ceramic ones are too big for my liking.

I love my Submariner. It’s worth every penny I spent and makes me feel good every time I put it on my wrist. Each person has their own reason and feelings…which is ok.

I really like my Submariner. As much as I did when I got it a few years ago. Then again, I didn't have it on a pedestal as a grail watch at any point. I think I may have been disappointed if I had. I think grail syndrome can ruin just about any watch, collectible, or piece of professional gear.

Love my Rolex GMT Batman and Sub Date, I feel happy to look at them as the first day I got them. I don’t care if no one notices, in fact I prefer it. They are for my enjoyment could care less what anyone thinks . The sub date is timeless and perfection, I still continue to go back to it !

My advice: try before you buy

as an experiment and to make informed decision; first buy a cheap fake Rolex. Wear it daily, see how it goes, see if people notice. See how it affect your daily lives, then down the road you realize it’s just a watch. You see it’s true color. Then, you decide whether or not if you want a REAL rolex. As you wear the real rolex, its no difference to the fake rolex.

This is what marketing does, it shapes your perception. They exaggerate the images of the product for more than it is. Just like laptops. All other brands are laptops. But for apple it’s a Mac or MacBook and it’s not a laptop. I’ve used Mac, it’s just a a freaking laptop.


Smartphones are actually portable computers that you carry it in your hand. But it’s been marketed and exaggerated as a ‘smartphone’.
