When Wallace stated why he was firing Gilbert, it was very obvious it was a cover up for a discriminatory reason. Sometimes cover ups for discriminatory reasons aren't obvious.

Discrimination complaints are often hard to prove unless you have email evidence, text message evidence, voicemail evidence, handwritten evidence, etc of the employer admitting they fired you, they didn't hire you, etc for a discriminatory reason. A lot of times when employers fire someone, don't hire someone, etc due to a discriminatory reason, they'll say things such as you're not a good fit, other applicants are more qualified than you, other applicants went to better colleges, other applicants had better recommendation letters, you're not a good cultural fit, etc, and it can be hard to prove whether those reasons are the true reasons why or whether they're a cover up, pre-text, etc for a discriminatory reason.
