Real vs Fake - Genuine Apple Silicone MagSafe and Clear Case vs. Dupes

I always wondered if fake Apple cases came from the same factories as Apple’s products or somebody was trying to make copies that were as close to the original as possible.

So I went and bought around a dozen cases from AliExpress and discovered that knockoff silicone cases are close to the real thing and clear cases are a complete gong show.

So the biggest tell when it comes to figuring out if a case is an authentic Apple case or fake? See if your iPhone recognizes the case as a MagSafe product.

For the silicone cases, other than the evidently fake green case, the majority of the knockoffs came in official looking boxes that even came with the health warning for pacemakers.

The UPC codes for the products all seemed legit except for the purple case which had a UPC code for an iPhone 11 product. I will note that none of the UPC codes matched the one I bought from the official Apple Store.

In general, the cases worked fine with the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro’s. The only other thing worth noting is the every fake case was about 0.5mm thinner than the real ones.

When it comes to clear case, there wasn’t even one product that came close. Every case was different and not in a good way. Some had large corners, other’s didn’t, other’s had cutouts on the back BUT most handled just as well as the actual Apple case. Which isn’t a good thing since Apple’s Clear Case is by far their worst handling product.

I’d possibly recommend coming back to checking out knockoff cases in a couple months. I say this because over time these manufactures figure out how to make the product seem more real, and a big thing they need to do is to get the MagSafe connection to work.

Idea: how to spot "fake" or inadequate repairs of iPhone as opposed to the real or authorised dealers.

Basically, what do i check for misrepairs and wether or not it was done properly for most repair cases.

You should try out the fake MagSafe pucks. A friend of mine bought one on Amazon for 15€ and says it’s identical to the original

I was using the iPhone 12 Mini Apple silicone case for a week or so, but it just created so much damn static. I couldn't take it anymore. I went with a Spigen thin fit. I do love the size of the thin fit and the handling, but Spigen went hard on that rubber coating. I feel like there's a balance between handling and making the case feel weird to hold. It's not exactly sticky; it's just also not comfortable. I've been using this case for three months now but I think I'm ready to move on to something with a matte texture. Hell I think I might just go apple leather to see what that's all about these days.

I was interested to know if I bought a fake MagSafe case which I assumed I had. I wanted a budget MagSafe case so got a nice looking leather one off eBay. On the picture it doesn’t have the apple logo but when it arrived it came in non apple packaging in a clear bag. And the case feels, looks and acts like a legit apple one. The MagSafe is great. The MagSafe animation shows when the case is installed. The case even has the apple stuff written inside and the seams look amazing. So never quite figure out whether mine is legit or not. If it isn’t it’s incredibly well copied.
