Global Navigation Satellite System

GNSS satellites orbit Earth once every 11h 58m and 2s at a medium orbit altitude.

Each satellite transmits coded signals; these signals contain the satellite's precise orbit details and a very stable timestamp from an atomic clock.

While GNSS satellites vary in age and design, their principal operation remains the same.

The satellites transmit two carrier waves in the L-Band, which is referred to as L1 and L2.

The carrier waves transmit information from the satellite to Earth.

Most of the GNSS receivers have 2 parts: Antenna and a processing unit.

The antenna receives satellite signals while the processing unit makes sense of it.

To determine the position of the GNSS receiver it needs to collect information from a minimum of three satellites.

When the receiver knows the precise position of itself with respect to each satellite it translates its own position into an earth-based coordinate system and thus gives the result in latitude, longitude, and altitude.

At 0:42 the video implies that GNSS satellites orbit at 400km altitude. That is not correct. GNSS satellites orbits have a semi major axis of ~25.000km, which means they orbit at ~20.000km above the Earth's surface.
