Are you ready to have a conversation in ASL today? In this video I'm teaching you 50 basic ASL conversational signs that you can begin to put into your ASL conversations.

To make it easier to navigate I've broken it down into sections and have numbered all of the signs. Use the chapter markers to easily navigate to a specific word/phrase and watch a sign again. You can also slow the video down.

Check out our other videos on conversational signs and phrases included some quizzes to test your understanding.

I'm a psychology major, and we had a topic about ASL. It doesn't meet the criteria for language but it is still considered a language because despite that it is spatial in nature, ASL activates the same area in the brain responsible for language. It's awesome, and I started learning it yesterday because I might encounter deaf people during my internship. Thank you for this!

Im currently a biggenier and what is encouraging me to learn is to help people tbh . My story behind this was when i saw this deaf worker at the grocery store who was trying to communicate with the cashier and since then i started to learn at least the basic to any deaf person i see

might be selfish, but im trying to learn so i can have silent convos w my family when im older. i think its so amazing that we as humans can connect in peace, especially in such a robust world.

I recently went to a summer camp, and in my cabin, there was this deaf girl, she only communicated by notebook, I barely knew any ASL, it's my goal to help her voice be heard. Next time we meet I'll be able to have a basic conversation with her. Thank you so much ❤ Edit 9/14/24: Sadly due to school I haven't learned much asl :[ but I have found myself signing to my hearing classmates. Turns out, my buddy, who I will call Sprtle (his minecraft username), wants to learn with me :D. As for the girl from camp, I sadly have lost contact with her. But, I'm still gonna learn asl so I am able to hear more voices and to do something that is worth my time and not algebra 1.

Not just that you include such helpful categories and clear speaking, but you also organize every sign and every extra information!
You also include many captions and this may be just a coincidence, but your very easy to lip read as well, even over a device. You have helped me so much in learning this beautiful visual language, thank you so much, Meredith!!!

Thank you so much for these videos Meredith! I am on the spectrum and tend to get non-verbal when I feel overstimulated, signing helps me still get my point across to my close friends and family. I love how easy you make it to understand and that you explain each sign.

I love these refresher videos. I work with several deaf associates, and while I don't see them often, keeping my skills up is very important to me. I'd love to see a video about death/losing loved ones. Signs for sympathy and such. Happy Holidays!

my school only offered learn Spanish, which I tried but couldn't grasp as well as Japanese, French and German. you make asl so easy to understand and actually click!! I'm learning just to learn a new language. there used to be this deaf guy that would order at a restaurant I worked at and he was only comfortable talking to me even though I didn't know sign. I loved that customer so much and think he's part of why I want to learn so bad

I’m excited to learn ASL as my 6 year old son can speak but communicates way better with ASL. Way less tantrums.
