Batu Caves, Malaysia | Astonishing or Dross? | How To Get There with the Train
Показать описание
Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Malay word batu, meaning 'rock'. The hill was originally known as Kapal Tanggang from the legend of Si Tanggang. The town nearby is named after the Batu Caves limestone formation.
The Batu Caves are definitely worth the visit when travelling to Kuala Lumpur. The rainbow of colours from the Hindu temple mixed with the backdrop of the limestone caves provides a spectacular site to be seen.
The main Batu Cave itself is free, but we were told by our taxi driver to visit the temples in the caves at the base of the mountain. You have to pay to get into these caves. They contain small painted statues that depict Hindu beliefs and central figures in the Hindu religion. My one complaint and reason why I suggest you be weary is that one of the caves contained a small reptile "zoo". The creatures are kept in small aquariums but the worst part is that the snakes had parasites on them. I saw ticks on a number of the snakes which is indicative of poor treatment and habitat conditions.
They also have monkeys and other animals in small cages.
