As a United Methodist in a church “discerning” splitting, the concept of a magisterium given by Christ to interpret scripture is becoming real. I pray the rosary periodically and recently the angelus with my wife.
It is becoming apparent, sola scripture works only if you are the only one who can read or is the authority in the churches.

Thanks for the great video. This resonates with how I came to terms with the Perpetual Virginity of Mary. I found the arguments justifying the dogma to just be weak and unconvincing, but then I realized that the belief in the perpetual virginity of Mary came from the historical fact that was relayed by the apostles that Mary remained a virgin, not because of some convoluted theological argument on why Mary refrained from relations with Joseph after Christ’s birth. The fundamental error that many Protestants make when it comes to most of the Marian Dogmas is that they assume that the dogmas result from the theological and scriptural defenses that are presented for the dogmas. The assumption is not believed because Mary is the Woman in Revelation 12. Christians believe Mary was Assumed into Heaven because there is an ancient tradition that she was assumed into heaven, with that knowledge, we are able to see that Revelation 12 points to this. The existence of the dogma precedes the arguments formulated to defend it.

When I was a Protestant I would have answered your objection on the basis that typology in the Bible was divinely inspired as part of scripture therefore I could trust it to be true. Since at that time I rejected Catholic authority I would have questioned Catholic typology as being liable to error. The irony of that position is trusting the Scriptures to be without error when they were compiled by the same Catholic Church that I mistrusted on other issues. Obviously I eventually realized my error. You have to go straight to the authority issue with Protestants if you want to get through to them. You will go in circles all day otherwise.

I had forgotten the argument of inconsistency in the application of typology on the part of Protestantism. It is a good one!!
We know that the New Testament affirms Jesus as the new David and the Son of David. Therefore, Mary is the Arc of the Covenant and the Queen Mother. And Peter is the Eliakim of Isaiah 22:20-24 (verse 25 refers to "that day", , when Jesus came and ended the Levitical priesthood -- the peg gave way, and Jesus established a New Testament priesthood.)
I'm hoping that maybe my comment will help the alg0r1thm suggest this video to others!

You may mention this as Im commenting early into vid, but there is such a unique beauty in typology & a type that helped me w/ our blessed Mother being the Queen of heaven is w/ Solomon & Bathsheba, her receiving a throne by his side, bowing etc & of course Christ being much greater than Solomon & Mary the Lords Mother as Queen. Even as a Protestant I would have found this super interesting, grace & peace to like minded believers in the Son of God

The Apostle Paul said that when someone turns to the Lord Jesus, the veil over the Law is lifted. Can we say when someone turns to the Totum Christum (Christ the Head and His Body the Church), the full veil is removed from the Scripture (OT)?

Excited to see this one. As my own Protestant blood brother always speaks on Mary. My brothers are Catholic Church conspiracy theorist and Ill love to see how you deal with this. Will be using any good arguments I find.

Only me and my dad are Catholics. My brothers and mom are Protestants. We grew up going to Protestant church and took me studying myself to come to the conclusion of the True Church.

I think the typology arguments are very strong, they really demonstrate how much our history and events are in Gods hands.
I think it is absolutely amazing how for example we have a history about the exodus, true people, and while these where historic events;
they also where imagery God is using to teach us.

But when I look at Dr. Ortlund's video for example, I think the most strong argument against the assumption is, because
he thinks that a reasonable case can be made that it isn't apostolic, but actually stems from heterodox sources.

I do find these things difficult, because with a Magesterium it isn't an issue persee, because they can filter out the truths.
But for me, as a "semi-outsider" (I'm strongly leaning towards Catholicism), it does detract from my trusting that the Magesterium is valid.
Things like these are real roadblocks for me.
