Disneycember ends with one of Disney's biggest box office bombs in a long time. Did Doug find any value in it, or should it stay a lost world? Let's take a look at DIsney's Strange World.

Strange World is a 2022 American computer-animated science-fiction adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The 61st film produced by the studio, it was directed by Don Hall, written and co-directed by Qui Nguyen and produced by Roy Conli. The film stars the voices of Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Liu. Following Disney's fourth animated film to tackle the sci-fi genre since Big Hero 6 (2014), the film sets in the world of Avalonia and follows the Clades (Gyllenhaal, Quaid, Young-White, and Union), a legendary family of explorers, and Callisto Mal (Liu), the leader of the exploration and president of Avalonia, who must set aside their differences as they embark on a journey to a mysterious land below their world, inhabited by surreal lifeforms to save a resource called Pando from losing its energy power source.

A lesson I've learned from Treasure Planet: no matter how the art might be good or the story might be interesting, bad marketing can cripple any movie.

Disneycember has been a staple of my Decembers for years now. And Im always looking forward to them alot. So for that, thank you Doug. Also, Can we get a Dreamworks-uary Pt. 2 when you get the time?

Doug, can you *_PLEASE_* bring DreamWorks-uary back?! There’s been so many in the years since you did the original _(along with a few that you forgot to cover last time)_ that I feel like it’s high time to do a second round. There’s:
Joseph: King of Dreams
Puss in Boots
Rise of the Guardians
The Croods
Turbo
Mr. Peabody & Sherman
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Penguins of Madagascar
Home
Kung Fu Panda 3
Trolls
The Boss Baby
Captain Underpants: The First Movie
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
Abominable
Trolls World Tour
The Croods: A New Age
Spirit Untamed
The Boss Baby: Family Business
The Bad Guys
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

I can’t believe this went to theatres and NOT DISENCHANTED.
You know, the princess musical movie that would’ve done great with families? Feels like that should’ve been in theatres and Strange world should’ve been a Disney + movie.

I just can't believe that's the title they went with, it sounds like a placeholder!

After they discovered the plant and it became 25 years later, THAT was the world that blew me away. THAT was the world I wanted to be in. All their creative inventions and way of life was what I wanted.

Here's a short suggestion for next year: Doug should do like a re-review of really old disneycember episodes. Years change, we all change, opinions change sometimes. Maybe it'll be interesting.

If they wanted to do something "different" they should have at least opted for a character's style that doesn't look like every other 3D movie ever.
Those eyes are 100% Hotel Transilvania from 2 to 4 (the first one was ok).

You should include Moon Knight and Disenchanted in next Disneycember since you missed them this year.

I thought Encanto was contrived at the end but Strange World was contrived the entire movie. The fights (which there are too many of) escalated to anger really quickly and their characters' reactions didn't feel earned. I rolled my eyes way too many times but I did want to see how it ended so I sat through it, which is more than I could say for Matrix 2.

Fun fact: the father son casting is the same as day after tomorrow (Quaid as the father, Gyllenhaal as the son)

I saw Strange world the week it came out, I thought it was awesome. I felt pretty smart when I saw those purple tentacle monsters and thought "those remind me of macrophage cells from the immune system" only to be vindicated when that turned out to be exactly what they were.

It's strange (I couldn't resist) but I've had Disney+ for a few years now, and one of the things that I've found myself looking forward to is when Disney brings out a big new film and allows you to watch it on Christmas Eve, and it's practically becoming a new Christmas tradition in our house.

A couple of years ago they brought out Pixar's Soul, and while I have to admit that it's not one of my favourite Pixar films (in fact I haven't actually watched it again since it came out) I still appreciate it for it's great animation and for trying to tell a touching story that anyone can relate to.

Last year it was Encanto, and my God do I love Encanto! I can't believe that this movie is only just a year old but it's up there with my all time favourite Disney films.

Strange World, I have to admit didn't really excite me that much. I remember seeing posters for it in my local cinema, but never saw any trailers. I had to look up a trailer, and even then I just wasn't excited to see this film. But I figured I'd check it out, and it's just ok. The animation is great, I kind of saw the twist coming but it still surprised me, if that makes any sense, but I don't know if I'll get the urge to watch it again.

Who knows, maybe that's the pattern with these Disney films at Christmas, one year I won't be so invested, the next I'll absolutely love. If that's the case, I'm looking forward to next Christmas, and the next Disneycember! Thanks to Doug and the Channel Awesome crew, and a Happy New Year to all!

"It wasn't advertised very well."

I keep hearing this from people trying to make excuses for the film, but I honestly have no idea where they get this idea from. If you went to see _anything_ in the months leading up to this film's release, you saw the trailers for _Strange World._ I certainly did, again and again and again. It was just a bad movie that no one wanted to see.

I thought the movie was ok, not great, ok. The one thing I really liked about the movie we're two things, first was the world itself and the creatures that inhabit it, as these look so unique especially for a Disney film, and I loved the creativity with these creatures. And the second thing was the twist, (SPOILERS) I did not expect that the whole time the whole island that they were on and inside was a gigantic living creature, that is such a good twist as you didn't see it coming and I really liked that. That is in my option what succeeds about this movie, everything else from the story to the writing and the characters are pretty forgetful, but over all it was an ok film.
