Strange World is a boring mess

I only went to see Strange World in cinemas because someone gifted the tickets to me for free and even then I wanted a refund. I still think this is the worst Disney animated film to date.

Rural American who likes Electroswing here, looking at the technology they are using in the clips you showed, and considering the plant life that seems to be present, those fields that they are supposedly growing a plant that was capable of growing in a snowy, high-altitude environment, and apparently nowhere else, are far too clean and square. I don't think that, even with modern technology, it would be possible to create such perfect looking fields especially the lack of weeds. There is also the small issue of trying to grow plants native to a specific environment in uncontrolled environments, the act of creating new technology to harness the new energy source, and becoming totally dependent on something in less than a generation.

1:26 Atlantis was also a much much better adventure movie because the it incorporated the characters’ roles into their design. Audrey for instance, is clearly the team’s mechanic because she wears overalls, boots, and other utilitarian clothing. Ethan is supposed to be the explorer but nothing about his design suggests this and his outfit is something a generic high schooler would wear to class.

So, my dad is currently a software engineer, but he used to be a journalist. More specifically, he was a USC graduate whose primary work was reporting on the entertainment industry. And he has a lot of interesting stories from that time. One of them was when he was sent to do press coverage for Rescuers Down Under. The people working on it were really excited! They were really rooting for this movie, going all out to promote it, and chances are, a lot of you reading this comment were hyped too if you were a kid growing up in the 90s.

And then it underperformed at the box office. As soon as it became clear that Rescuers Down Under wasn't going to make it's money back, they pulled all advertising. (Waking Sleeping Beauty covered this). Disney doesn't like to waste money on movies that aren't going to pull a profit. In fact, according to my dad, if a given film performs poorly at preview screenings, any marketing campaigns for said film get thrown in the trash. In fact, if you were paying attention like I was because hyperfixation, the live action Pinocchio also got the bare minimum of advertising and - surprise, surprise! - was panned by critics.

No, Strange World didn't flop because Disney hates gays or variety or environmental messaging or whatever conspiracy theory Tumblr is going to cook up next. Do you think these people LIKE losing money? The thing is, when the first teaser came out, I was actually really looking forward to seeing it. Then the full trailer came out and revealed that this movie was about Jake Gyllenhaal's daddy issues, and that's really fucking boring. I imagine a lot of people, including the test audience, thought that too, and thus when Thanksgiving weekend rolled up, they took their eyeballs elsewhere.

Anyway the moral of the story is if you have to have a Disney product be a martyr for your cause, pick Owl House and not Strange World. And support creators and not corporations.

I had no idea Disney got their grubby hands on Caravan Palace... That is so disheartening...

Honestly how many "first LGBTQ+ characters" do we have at this point
It feels like we've gotten so caugh up with the idea of inclusion that we'll take whatever we can get instead of demanding what we deserve, I've seen 16 year old do better representation with a drawing tablet and an essay due next week than multi million dolar corporations

I really don't like these modern kids movies as they have a ton of redundancy issues that feels like they think their audience is stupid, not just kids. Even if kids don't understand every subtle implication, they definitely SEE it. The stakes and the message feel shallow and I always feel like there are major plot holes.

I'm so glad anytime I see something new from this channel, it may be buried but I hope it never dies

I’m glad that I went to see Puss in Boots in theaters instead of staying home to watch it.

This is one of those times where having an actual villain would've helped the movie. Come on Disney, get it together!

To be fair "Raya", "Chicken Little" and "Mars Needs Moms" are arguable worst in some aspects but at least they all managed to actually obtain an emotional response out of me (although weak) which in my opinion is better than feeling nothing but that's just my take.

The funny thing is when the trailer first came out I thought the movie was going to be completely different, I don't know why I thought of this idea but I thought the movie was going to be about a man who loss his wife and child and thinks it's his fault suddenly found a mythical world that can bring back loss ones and so he meets a group of explore s who help him and try reconnecting with his wife and child and as the movie goes on he finally sees his wife and child but and tries to bring them back to the real world but they were unable to telling him that it's best to move on because if he doesn't he would be trapped in his bubble thinking their death is his fault so once he realizes it's best to move one he wakes up from his dream and tries to move on but every now and then he visits their grave and puts flowers on their tombstone then before the end he says ; thank you for the best years I had I my life and I will never forget the amazing family I had and I will miss you so much; after that he walks off beginning his new life.

Yeah so my idea it's really weird why I thought of this idea just wanted to share that

I just discovered this channel today and it’s such a creative concept. I love the mix of movie reviews and a unique original story. How every episode tells us more about Valentino and the other characters story but not enough for us to have a complete picture yet. The voice acting and character designs are also really good. These are all very entertaining, stay buried but never die. It’s like hidden treasures.

I've seen too much people blaming the flop of this movie on either the gayness or the non-marketing, you must be part of the few that realiced it was just boring

Also, even when I watched the trailer, it seemed like the twist would be that the whole planet was alive, you know, with how a lot of the beasts have no eyes and the pet is literally an ameba, but since you make no mention of it, I guess I was just wrong, which is sad since that means this film doesn't even have a twist

PD:wooho! I'm the 100th like!

I think the most interesting thing about this movie is the fact that it reminded me and my friends of the mystery flesh pit national park. I remember literally nothing else about it.
Also welcome back it literally made my day to see this notification this morning

I am glad to see you back, I missed your content!

I love the little text blurbs, I'm sure most people will understand what you mean but just because most do doesn't mean that a lot don't benefit from this. It is nice to be clear and well thought out! Doesn't seem like we can say that about this movie.

Little joke aside though, welcome back.

I think equestria is more interesting than the “Strange world” so that’s an ultra failure on Disney’s end.

I’ll say this, at least the film gives me the strong creative drive to write something better!

It's not you, something is very broken in the industry right now. Just look at David Zaslav axing animation left and right, like Paul Bunyan chopping down an entire forest with one fell swoop. Only to give us Velma as what they think adult animation should be.

It's like the executives at these studios are ashamed of animation, and even ashamed of their own studio histories. Combined with an inexplicable need to try to preach what they consider to be moral lessons on audiences who are essentially held hostage for a couple hours at the theater.

If Disney continues to make mediocre movies like Strange world, other studios will take over and Disney’s reputation will get worse over time … It’s very cool seeing other studios getting the recognition they deserve (Like Dreamworks With Puss in boots the Last wish which I absolutely love) … and It’s refreshing to see other talented artists making Films that aren’t Disney but at the same time Disney has the potential to make awesome films but I feel like currently they don’t push their talents far enough… If they continue to make mediocre movies, they’re gonna keep making the same stuff over and over again …
