Will artificial intelligence replace software engineers and developers? The answer for a lot of people might not be clear, but in this video, I explain my thoughts on this topic.

Programmers will always be needed to buy Herman Miller chairs.

At that point, If programmers are not needed, nobody is.

It's easier to write 50 lines of code rather to write 10 paragraphs long of instructions.

Last people to lose jobs will be software developers in IT.

Imagine it can write code in binary itself how optimized that we get optimized 😅

Absolutely! It can help fix the error in a small piece of code but not write everything from the scratch. Sometimes it would also loose the context of what you had initially.

Another limitation of AI is creativity which humans are much better at. Debugging is another critical area where AI shows limitations. Djikstra's algorithm is still constrained by sample size (normal distribution) and simply cannot go beyond sample size boundaries and outsmart its creator. Leveraging AI as a tool is much more realistic. Anybody claiming AI will replace programmers is clearly not in the field or not a very good programmer. AI will however replace cybersecurity at some point since much of cybersec is less about creativity and more about automation

The keyword here is "at this point". It is just a matter of time when software engineers have to find another job for living.

Maybe once Ai advances enough, programmers won't program but to put the pieces of code together also ensuring the code outputting makes sense for the specific scenario.

All I know is AI has a track record of surprising professionals in the field with its intelligence. What will all this look like in 5-10 years? It’s going to be wild to see AI self heal bad code on its own.

Also remember that GPT takes current data, it doesn’t really invent new data. So if you are trying to make a framework, API, or something thats actually beneficial to the community, it’d be tough for GPT to do it. You at least need an understanding as to what GPT is doing, to have it code for you. If you have no idea what its giving you, then good luck.

And what of the low level programmer employees, huh?

What happens to the people who can't receive high level training?

Would they be obsolete since the AI can just do the low level stuff for the company instead?

Is there a place for not-so-skilled programmers in jobs in the future?

This is what I'm worried about

But also, in order to implement what the chat got is writing you would need a programmer. I think chat got will help low level programmers learn faster and I think it will accelerate the development of technology which in turn will actually increase the demand for computer scientists

what if chat gpt gets access to whole codebase and understands each file and now you have to just ask and it will figure out which file it have to look for then we do not need to make him understand the instruction but gpt will make us understand the whole code

Well, with more advancement of AI. More Programmers and data scientist are needed to fix and improve AI. Everything needs maintenance.

Everything you said is a matter of times, and no it won’t be in 50 years, probably 5-10 years or even less

We have 2.1 million new Bachelors Degrees graduate every year, they all need jobs too…. Every year… let’s stop acting like there will be 100 million programming jobs available…

if you look at my country India. majority of the software developers work on repetitive job. most of them are outsourced by big us tech companies. I feel probably the top 5 or 10 percent of programmers will have a secure job. the rest will lose it.

Doesn't matter, any arguments will fail when definitely in the next 5 or so years it solves even those problems and programmers will be replaced completely

it has already started

However by the time we have GPT6 I think it'll be all over
