One thing you could try is use Raspberry as a VPN server and tour device as client...
And you don't need to mess around with port forwarding ...
And ONLY allow access to the pi for VPN IP for more secure connection !

Yeah, make it an VPN server, you can access like you are on a network and it's much more secure. I've got an NAS server, Nextcloud, VPN server and OS on just 1 sd card on 1 raspberry pi and it works perfectly. VPN install is VERY easy too

I would set up ssh keys and use an ssh tunnel and run vnc, rdp over that. Plenty of guides on youtube how to set it up.
Another more complicated but more flexible solution is to run an Apache guacamole server and access services through a web browser.

So, got a McDonald's and headed home, recorded on the way, stopped and parked for testing outside the crematorium. LOL! Hi local lad :-)

I always just enable vnc from raspberry pi configuration. Works remotely from anywhere with free account and works well on data.

Lee another great vid. Could you do one on setting a share on the pi to be accessed from windows both local and remote. I did manage to set one up but later after a shutdown it stopped working and I can’t get it running again. Thanks.

Never had a problem using VNC, no need to open up ports on the router, file transfer is built-in and works on multiple devices, I use my laptop to work on 2 Pi's, my PC and my mums PC, she's not very tech savvy and doesn't live nearby so when she is struggling to do something she calls me up and I can talk her through what to do (best way to learn is to do) if the computer is having problems i can take over and fix it

Why not VNC? It comes on Raspberry Pi OS and RealVNC will let you use a Home User account for multiple devices (I think 5) that can be available from external devices, without having to open your router/firewall. If you want to go beyond 5, you can always host one or two externally, then use the local VNC client to connect to other devices once on your network. I am not shilling for RealVNC, but I was looking for something that I could use to remotely help my Mother on her PC and it works great, even from my phone. I was surprised with the home user option, but I was ready to pay out the $3.50 per month to support. The benefit of RDP is that you are opening a secondary connection so it does not interfere with a user on the device, but that is exactly why I had to rule it out for my use this time.

As always clear and easy to understand . Thanks 👍😊👍

Nice video, just started playing with xrdp. Is there a way to get audio from the Pi to work over the connection? I know it's not fast enough for smooth video, but it seems audio could work.

Personally, for remote access, I prefer NoMachine. Somehow, it feels faster than VNC and RDP. You also don't need to mess around with port forwarding on your router.

I believe that installing Tailscale on Pi, computers, IPad, etc. is better, the you can use RDP, ssh, etc.

Instead of underclocking, might your remote access be made smoother by setting the voltage and upper processing speed back to default, while lowering the idle to, say, 500? Mightn't the extra 500 on the top, i.e. 1500, and default voltage make your remote access, especially web browsing, smoother? Just a thought.

You could have used Vnc Server instead of Microsoft Remote Desktop because in vnc server you can file transfer using the vnc server only and it also has cloud connection with a strong encryption

I use anydesk and no port forwarding required even when Pi is connected using a usb 4G dongle

Do you know a way to cast content from your phone to the Pi? Like YouTube or maybe photos
