Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, returns to music

Yusuf Islam, the singer who came to fame as Cat Stevens, is embarking on his first U.S. tour since 1976. CBS News' Anthony Mason spoke with the singer about his return to America, his new album, and about embracing the name he used before becoming a Muslim.

Cat Stevens has always been one of my favorite singers & I have all of his albums. I was sorry & saddened when he stepped away from music but I never believed the bad press that came after. I respect his decision to leave music & seek God. I'm very glad he's found a balance to have both now. Welcome back!!

I was also living for music before I converted to islam, I needed time to accept it but I know its better like that.
Akhi let me explain you again why islam is against music: Quran recitation gives you a feeling, an emotion in your heart and music also does. If you hear music or play it, you forget Allah. If you want to follow all this other muslim musicians, then do it but dont forget, that Allah knows everything.
Well, we will see it at Yaum Al-Qiyama.
I pray, that Allah protect you and our Ummah.

This interview was when Yusuf returned to the USA in 2014 after 38 years. I felt I was in a beautiful dream, I was blessed to welcome him back in Boston, yes "The Peace Train was Late again, but I could not be happier !! It was magic to see him on stage in the USA again. I love this interview.

I shudder to think of the body of work this genius could have created if he stayed in the music scene as a younger man. I was introduced to his music by my roommate in 2008 and he's definitely way up there in my opinion as a prolific music creator and pioneer. Glad he's in the Hall of Fame.

I've never been into his music, but as a Muslim, I am glad he found a balance and realized that there's nothing wrong with music, unless it promotes negative values or behavior (as also a book or a movie can).
