Good idea but if I have a welder I'd just weld it and never have to wry bout it again.

You already have a MIG Just weld on a new flange or pipe. I use exhaust clamps to position the pipe where I want it, tack it in, remove clamps, and weld the rest.

When I did mine, I just disconnected the flange, loosened the exhaust pipe from the vehicle in the section I was working on, added high temp silicone muffler sealer to the inner race, and torqued everything back down. I haven't had any issues for about four years now and counting... And I did the job in about 45mins w/o permanently damaging my exhaust system.

Welder, half a tube of hi-temp rtv, a pipe you cut in half, and two U clamps. . . .
Just cut a segment of thin wall pipe twice the length of the gap and U bolt clamp it.
There, saved you $500 and 2 hours of wasted time.

If the silicone can seal the ends why not use it for the seam lines where you welded?

They make couplers various pipe sizes to use with clamps no welding required. Found at any local autopart store.

God damn that's the most ghetto shit I've ever seen. You can weld obviously, weld the damn thing! Silicone belongs no where near an exhaust.

For a temporary fix do everything the same but use fiberglass to seal the flange. It will withstand heating and cooling longer.

Woven fiber mat is best (Dry NO resin)
