FIRST STEP for installing James Hardie Lap Siding

Don't forget this small but important piece of fiber cement siding installation! We are using James Hardie for a portion of our exterior finishing and adding a starter strip is the first step!

I've started using corrugated plastic strips instead of Hardie starter strips. I get the same pack out from the starter but I also get a little bit of air infiltration behind the siding which promotes the stack effect for both drainage and drying. Excellent details!

Many you didn’t show it all but a membrane is not water a water screen. Only a barrier, not leaving space will trap moisture(hence rain screen) and cause mold and mildew to grow weather you have a membrane or not. But clean work love to see it. No one uses flashing like you are supposed to so good job.

Question, when the wall is finished, will all siding be the same width or will you have to rep the last one
