The emotional connection is what allows it to work on that level, as soon as you had someone you don’t like it’s not going to be fair anymore

A guest on Joe Rogan's podcast put it in a profound way for me. It went something like "I am communist in my home, a socialist in my community, and a capitalist in society." That seems to be the fundamental order of the different sizes of human interaction. I have the final say in my family with the holistic pursuit of happiness and success for my family with every decision I make. I'm a socialist in my community with the desire to offer help and compassion towards my fellow neighbor. I'm a capitalist in society as a result of accepting objective reality. Life is brutally unfair, there are many broken and evil people, there are no guarantees granted to you by life itself. Therefore it is mostly just to earn as much capital as you desire. But if I take care of my family and community as mentioned above, my earned wealth will be used for the greater good. Alas I will find peace and harmony in life knowing my financial security, my family's best life possible, lastly my communitys success and will being.

Thank you for letting me blabber 😂

Citizen: Can we have communism?

Ben: We have communism at home.

Communism at home: “Okay, you need to share your cookies with your brother”.

One time my teacher told the class "This isn't a democracy until I say it's a democracy. Until then, it's a dictatorship." Man that dude had an eloquent way of putting things.

The difference is a parent actually cares about the child; government never cares and never will.

It's called love. You love your family. You don't love big corporations and masses of people. Very simple explanation.

All he had to say was “the reason it doesn’t work on that scale is because adults don’t deserve to be treated like helpless children and told what they need to do

I think there's also an element of mutual obligation. If you had to spend at least 18 years living with your coworkers you'd probably feel the need to cultivate very strong bonds and care for each other's needs regardless of their exact contributions.

The situations aren't the same. As a result, they shouldn't be treated the same.

In other words it’s because you have the direct connection of love for those in your immediate family.

The main difference, as I see it, is that it is the role of the mother and father to parent the children. The children are somewhat reliant upon the parents until a certain age. Conversely, it is the role of the elected government to represent the constituents.
The government officials are not the parents of the population, they are elected to enact the will of the people, it is not their role to control, mother, or father the community.
Each member of the community who is able to do so should be responsible for their own welfare, prospects, and efforts to succeed, free from government over-reach or interference.

My home is a democracy, the 4 other members have input, get to express their opinions & each have a vote, 1 vote each my vote is worth 5 to their 1

Also... the government could be one heck of an "abusive parent". Yikes.

My mom used to always say, “Democracy ends at that back door. If this house were Cuba, I’m Castro. You have ZERO rights here. Now go do your damn homework!”😂

We call our parenting style a benevolent dictatorship.

"Each according to his ability and need" works if I love someone and am willing to sacrifice for them. It doesn;t otherwise

There's no possible way to calculate who's needs take precedent over someone else's needs. You can do that in a family where there is a finite number of people who all depend on each other and can negotiate who gets taken care of first.
You just can't do that in large groups with complete strangers.

We care deeply - selflessly - about those we know, but that sympathy rarely extends beyond our line of sight.
