Field Trial - UBO (Exciting Mite Resistance Testing)

Показать описание
I had the chance to observe a UBO test. Unhealthy Brood Odor is a new (pre-market) test for mite resistance in honeybees. Correlated to VSH, but faster than existing testing methodologies, I'm thrilled to have this opportunity.

Thanks to Kaira Wagoner of Optera and Cory Stevens of @stevensbeeco767 for letting me document this.

This is gold. Now I’m even more excited for grafting in 2024 with these UBO kits.

Very interesting discussion including about brood signaling, and on balancing diversity and high test scores

I hope that she'll have a speaking slot with a Q&A at Hive Life. I would love to ask her some questions. Thank you for making the trip and taking the time to document and share this information.

I have a few of Cory's Queens.... Just getting started with them. I am hopeful. After popping a cap off my vape last winter I have been skittish... Thankfully I was wearing a full face respirator and a hoody. Looking forward to the continuation of your series.

Very interesting, it's like helping natural evolution move along a little faster.

This was very interesting. I noticed the high scorers in your video seemed to also have a spotty brood pattern. This may have been due to the bees being very hygienic. Makes me wonder how many queens have been pinched, not because they were laying poorly, but because they had hygienic offspring.

Oh man i was hoping your last side by side was the fully removed cells. That was cool. Not a trait (strength) I would want, but very cool. Wonder what the temperment of that hive is. My guess is very spicy🥵 I'm in Poland this week and the hotel breakfast bar has a full frame of comb honey to spread on your toast or bagel. 😲

I have been playing with this since I started be keeping I have one colony that will do a d8 frame and one honey super build up the swarm in the spring but after that they will get no bigger 8 frame deep medium honey super they had the same super for 2 years I just thought about that.
