The wooden arm found in the well was likely an effigy used to represent an arm that was injured. In both ancient Greek and Roman times effigies of body parts were 'sacrificed' or offered at temples in the hopes that the gods would recognize the offering and heal the afflicted body part. So, it's possible that the assumed teenager injured their arm and the effigy was thrown into the well as an offering.
