Javier Milei: who is Argentina's new president?

Argentina's next president has been compared with his fellow rightwing populists Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro.

Milei secured 55.69% of the vote against 44.3% for his rival, the centre-left finance minister Sergio Massa. Milei has vowed to 'exterminate' inflation and take a chainsaw to the state. Before a career in politics, Milei was a media personality known for controversial outbursts. In one instance on live TV he destroyed a piñata representing the country's central bank - an institution he vowed to abolish on the campaign trail

As and Argentinian, I am VERY happy right now. He is an university professor, he taught courses in macroeconomics, economic growth, microeconomics, and mathematics for economists. Milei also authored numerous books and academic papers. And he predicted exactly this last 8 years of Economic declined in Argentina. He is VERY smart. And the most important thing is that he did not pursue the election for power but for principals. The salary that he gets as a national deputy gets raffled every month, he doesn't keep it.

I'm German and spend a lot of time in Argentina. I'm totally pro-Milei. His first week as an elected president was a bit chaotic but he also showed that he can be pragmatic. He has an eccentric personality but he's also pragmatic and in recent interviews, it became clear that he will differentiate between his private views and his presidential duties. This is neither a second Donald Trump nor a second Jair Bolsonaro. Milei has almost no experience as a politician but he has a deep understanding of macroeconomics and is willing to rely on and listen to people who understand more about politics. It will be a hard year 2024 for the people in Argentina but I truly hope that Milei's planned drastic measure will show the desired effect and will make Argentina great again in a very positive sense. Because it is a great country.

There are many images in this video that are several years old. When he was not in politics, he was a guest on television programs or he himself had fun in a theater. The incredible thing about this guy is that he has managed to become president in just 2 years since he decided to get into politics, without even having a political party.
