I do it the same way for lifting steels but I just use string and rubber bands

Why do you put wooden 2x4 above steel beam and under joists? Curious why you couldnt you position/place steel beam under joist without wood?

Doesn’t a steel beam weigh a thousand pounds?

Don't try this at home folks!
Extremely dangerous to use pulling gear for lifting, especially with those light duty ratchet straps and no sheathing to protect the webbing from the rough surface of the metal.
If anything, you should be using the endless type straps and definitely not the ones with hooks.WTF is that yellow tape supposed to do????

You may survive the experience with such lightweight beams but useless for heavier beams and when there isn't a conveniently placed floor above to hang your gear off.
This is basically a manual lift with a little bit of half-assed insurance.
