These days, it feels like a new electric car is released every other week, making it more and more difficult to know what makes each one unique. In this electric car comparison, Ryan ZumMallen from Edmunds rounds up three popular electric vehicles — the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4 and Toyota bZ4X — and talks about the good and the bad of these EVs as well as their similarities and differences. Ryan compares the range of each EV, what interior features to expect, how each electric car drives and so much more. Does the new Toyota bZ4X have the goods to stack up against the Mach-E and ID.4? Which EV is the most fun to drive? Ryan covers all of this in our electric car comparison test of the Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. VW ID.4 vs. Toyota bZ4X.

Which of these three EVs is your pick and what's the main point that convinced you? What innovations or improvements would you like to see coming on the horizon?

The bZ4x is a total failure for Toyota. Underwhelming design, underwhelming specs and now the wheels are falling off. What a shame. If I were Toyota, I'd just kill off the bZ line after this dumpster fire of a vehicle. People who want an electrified crossover from Toyota are better served by the compelling RAV4 Prime instead

Gosh, the bz4x is just so disapointing and ugly. I absolutely hate that steering column design and it makes things so awkward to use. It's far too little too late. An expected showing for Toyota, tough. Their products as of late have been poorly designed, not at all innovatove vehicles that it seems they spent the least amount possible developing, that just don't live up to competitors in almost any category. They get by by their reputation, that's all. Luckily their reputation is great, but anyone who actusally tries a Toyota competitor will be blown away. The bz4x really seems half assed.

I’m glad Toyota decided to offer “buy back” on the BZ4X. I was one of the first to buy one here in NorCal. Got my money back and used it to purchase my new KIA EV6 GT Line and I’m very happy with it.

As a mache owner I can tell you that it's amazing, I love it. Very comfortable. Great range. And got the tax credit

It looks as if the Toyota bZ4X was in an accident and the damaged panels have been replaced but yet to visit the paint shop. The Venza looks much nicer (if you can find one at a resonable price).

i got the bz4x as my very first car ever. i cant really compare it with any other car ive driven like the only care ive ever driven is from an Learners car rental. And I love my BZ4X runs so smooth and quiet and the breaking is just smooth as butter

Frunks are such a weird thing to “have to have”. I much would rather a shorter nose to make it easier to drive in tight spaces.

IONIQ 5 over any of these for me.

You forgot to mention that the Toyota no longer qualifies for the EV tax credit, and when equipped with AWD, it has extremely slow DC charging… over 45 minutes to get to 80%, which makes it DOA for many.

Bz4x, "is like any other car you can buy" quote.. didn't realize the wheels come loose on any other car.😂

bZ4X has been recalled due to potentially the wheels literally falling off. 😬

Bring back buttons and knobs! You shouldn't have to take your eyes off the road to make adjustments to the A/C, radio, etc.

bZ4X was noted has having the best observed efficiency; yet, the mi/kWh itself was never mentioned. Instead, the video focused on range... which makes no sense whatsoever knowing that VW's production of ID.4 for the United States in the United States uses a 55 kWh battery. That is considerably smaller than the 71.4 kWh battery in bZ4X FWD and 72.8 kWh in bZ4X AWD. Again, real-world results for efficiency were excluded. Think about how competitive traditional vehicles became with regard to MPG. Seeing EV efficiency information missing is really disappointing... especially from a source usually highly regarded for thorough reviews.

Satisfyingly excellent review. It is credible and intelligent. Thanks!

Test them 'til the wheels fall off.

"Kind of a strange thing for a Mustang."

Yup. That's what we've all been thinking since that car was announced. They should have just called it "Lightning" or simply Mach-E and none of these comparisons and criticisms would have been made. The Mach-E is a great car. The Mach-E is a very poor Mustang.

The Mach E is amazing. We have owned Tesla’s and Ford did a great job with their first effort.

Loves the Mustang but hates the price so I placed an order on VW ID.4 Pro AWD. I expected around early October 2022 to get it. Thank you for comparing and pricing.
