Showing your face can depend on your age! I have a tutorials channel where I don't often show my face on the video at all. I have experimented many times face and no face and every time when I have my face - views decrease. It can be that it shows that I'm in my late 50s and my viewers are quite evenly across age groups, with the biggest group being 25-34.

I've been messing around with my thumbnails and it is crazy how well these tips work!
Removing the background has made a big difference btw. My first 1k viewed video used this tip.

One more tip: Prevent the text from hitting video length overlay at the bottom right. I would suggest that the text should be visible at 80-90% from the center (i.e. avoiding the edges of the thumbnail).

I love these tips for thumbnails! On days that I am feeling photogenic, I take several photos after filming using different expressions and then save them for future thumbnail uses. I have had my teacher channel for a few years to just post review problems (it's been pretty lame). I have decided this year to really invest in it so my students and others have a good resource during covid. Thanks for the help!
