A Fun Colored Balls Probability Problem // Is your high school probability up to snuff? This problem, which I adapted from a GRE math subject test, should give you a little challenge. We’ll be picking two colored balls at random from a box and finding the probability without replacement that they’re the same color. There are several ways to attack challenging probability problems like these, and I decided to go for the combinations and permutations approach. I know there’s a faster way for solving difficult probability questions like these, and I leave that to you to figure out - be sure to let me know in the comments how you did it!

Challenging math problems like these are ideal for students looking for ACT math preparation and GRE math preparation videos. If you enjoy combinatorics and hard probability problems, you will find several more on my channel:

Hey Guys! There is an even FASTER way to solve this problem (no combinations required) which I'll leave to you to share in the comments if you found it!

I understood that 8/28 simplifies to 2/7, so that’s an A+ for me 🤣

Great video. My solution was: P(2 same color)= P(2 red) + P(2 blue) + P(2 white)
P(2 red) = 4/8 * 3/7
P(2 blue) = P(2 white) = 2/8 * 1/7

P(2 same color) = 12/56 + 2/56 + 2/56 = 16/56 = 2/7

Thanks for sharing

(1/7)x(1/2) + (3/7)(1/2) = 2/7
Math is so deceptive. It's full of problems that are far easier than they look and problems that are far harder than they look.

The probability for blue balls is surprisingly low, right?
