Lmaoooo.... That's me in the beginning of the video. It was my first time going into a match with a full set like that. I intentionally picked the noob map because I didn't want to run into anyone and lose the gear. I assumed I'd have a lobby to myself so when you showed up I was pretty scared. I was SUPER happy you left right away. Now that I know it was you, I'm even happier we didn't fight :P

In the end, I got cocky against a mini-boss and lost the set anyway... so there's that.

your own heirlooms should make much less of an impact on matchmaking score. Or let us craft the lower rarity heirlooms even if weve unlocked the higher tiers.

Incidentally, this also cures the LoH disease since it only appears on blue and purple items.

This was extremely eye opening. I never would have even considered gear affecting matchmaking. Very good to know.

I sware I am going crazy in regard to purple gear, causing me to see other purples regardless of my gear score. I'm full tin foil hat here. Gear score is not the only factor in pushing you into 3+ different lobbies, even though this is the obvious answer. Even if I'm wrong, you can use this green gear strategy to consistently fight other equally geared players. Thanks for watching, this took some time to put together :)

Thanks so much for this. It seems to be consistent with all the games I ran yesterday while <21gs and no epics.
Your vid came just in time to help me run my mate through easier lobbies for his first games, and he ended up having a blast. ❤

you are right about purples. I go in with only 2 purple heirlooms and the rest is grey and I go against people in full purple.

I've noticed the same. The moment I got my purple heirlooms I would start seeing purples on every single player. Purple is a huge influence

I think that the GBMM changes the brackets depending on what kind of players are queueing up at a particular time. Basically trying to limit how long you wait for a match, and then trying to fit players into lobbies by gear score. That would explain why you aren't getting consistent results. If there were a lot of people queueing at the same time, such as during peak hours, you'd probably find more brackets of smaller gear score ranges too.

You'd probably also find a gray-geared lobby during times when a lot of people queue up in full gray, and not find one when there aren't enough gray-geared players to form one quickly.

can we talk about how we optimizing gameplay in the name of "having fair fights" seems disingenuous

Yesterday I entered the game with completely green equipment, except for one ring (white). I had an almost full lobby, with players in completely blue equipment, or almost completely blue, one of them had an active bonus set for each item.

This is exactly what I've been talking to my friends about, I've done some of my own testing too focusing on GS though. It seems when I'm above 24/25 GS I start running into full purples and 5-10 player lobbies. 10-15 GS seems to be new players with mid player count to low, 15-25 GS seems to be a mix of blues and greens with an occasional purple and player skill being mixed.

A regular purple set isn't even the issue in my opinion. When I run into Purple geared players, in my experience, its the set bonuses applied to their gear that makes me stand no chance against them. I'm often dead instantly even as a tankier class and when wearing full purple myself before I can even get a hit off. I strongly feel that another tier of gear score for matchmaking should be present to counter this. For example a set bonus should count in some way as gear score does in determining ranking for your matches.

Keep in mind that even following this can end with you in purple lobbies during low pop hours on your server/region. If there arent enough players in your bracket before the one minute countdown it will look for people in the next bracket.

The rogue you spotlighted at the beginning of the video is my gaming buddy! That's insane! I recognized his character immediately

BRO! I love the work! The gear break point is sub26 and 27above. I hasnt tested the low end of the bracket to hard, but Ive tested the top limits of the casual lobby. 26 and lower is a bracket, and I think it goes to 13-26

why is the game dying? it only has 11k players rn when it used to have 20k

I think we mostly got accustomed to Ironmaces super lazy approach to matchmaking, and assume all games do the same thing as just hard locking to specific gear brackets. it makes more sense to try and assign people based on preexisting lobbies that are "similar" gear to what they are, rather than looking at a maximum/minimum score type thing. The DB developers seem to be constantly changing things as well, so these are all interesting tests but could easily be obsolete in the next patch. Good info nonetheless, glad to see similar results as to what i was seeing.

Casual was much better before the last GBMM patch. That screwed it up pretty bad! Before the this last GBMM patch, you could run one green heirloom and get fair matches in Casual. If you do that now, you will get matches with all green and some blues, maybe even a purple, and you will get destroyed most matches. Currently from my testing, if you are low level and working on your characters and Heirloom unlocks, you have two options, #1. never run any green gear at all and run all common gear. #2. Run full green gear. That is the only way to currently get fair matches until they fix it or revert the patch so casual is how it was previously before this last GBMM patch. The issue is that if your a new player and you play one match and make it out with one piece of green gear and then take that back in on your second run, you are SCREWED! as you will get tossed to the wolves, and that is not good for the games growth of the player base. I have 130hrs in dungeonborne and have tested this a lot myself as I have had friends try the game and when they experienced this same thing, they uninstalled the game, so I was like I must figure this out. Thanks for taking the time to talk about this topic. I gave you a sub for your work! Sincerely, Dez

Anytime Im above like 26 gearscore casual lobbies are completely dead. Which is kind of sad cause Im pretty sure my 3 upgraded heirlooms + Full greens and a blue or two is putting me into dead lobbies. Classic, usually fills for me though, itll be like 10/16 and then an extra team or two will load in at the very end.
