I have holes on my spool but I don’t use em. I just go under and up with the line and grab it on the other side. Then I tie a simple clinch knot. No need for the holes 👍

Backing is for spools that don’t have those holes, because braided line can tie through that and it wont slip. Like an abu Garcia ambassador has a solid spool which requires backing, or like most line counting reels.

Your line won’t slip if you put the braid through a hole and tie a knot… a backing is commonly used on spinning reels due to there not being any holes

Why do this ? Genuine question. Always wanted a bait caster but I casted my buddy’s and oissed him off so I’m stuck with open face for now 😂

When I was younger I put straight braid on one of my baitcasters, and of course the line would always slip. I didn’t realize I had made that mistake and for years I didn’t use it because I was convinced that the drag was messed up, and wouldn’t tighten. Wish I would have seen this video back when I was like 13 so that this wouldn’t have happened!!

I've been asking up with water for 20 years. A deep sink with the water on full blast is even better then a bucket but we don't always have a sink the other thing you want to do is Ballance your spool, mark where your knot sits from your mono baking sits use a marker and run a line up your spool, make you braids to mono convection that knot should sits exactly opposite from the line you made for your spool knot. .... It can be a pain in the but at first to get your knot s exactly 180 degrees apart at first Takes a few tone🎉 but you get a sense of how much line to pull off the spoil prior to the convection knot, may seem a little bit over kill but you will be surprised at how much of a difference it makes I cat further with less v effort and no thumb until right at the end I'll feather it .. although if it s not to breezy I don't even have to do that with most lures some t don't care to ask you as the thing at the end yes my tells are set loose a casting reel is a precursor tool micro adjustments can pay Huge dividends. Balancing your spool is one such micro adjustments. It's worth the
