I use only XLOOKUP and LOOKUP. Although I Use FILTER (FILTER) fot two-way. Before XL I used INDEX/MATCH for two-way, VLOOKUP for unsorted exact match and LOOKUP for approximate match and sorted exact match. LOOKUP is even older than VL and is usually easier to use than VL. Also it does lookup-left which VL does not do directly (although XL will.)

Thank you for this video. XLOOKUP has one more advantage: we can determine what it writes in the cell if a match is not found, thus avoiding an "error" input. This was a great step forward for me.

My Company Still Uses Excel 2016 So I Have To Use Index/Match And Vlookup But On My Personal PC(Microsoft 365) It's Xlookup All Day...Great Advice Thank You Jon :)

Thanks John. good idea that new Excel users also have to learn the "old" functions. As for the intimidating XLOOKUP, maybe start first with the much simpler and still effective LOOKUP ? As for the default value in VLOOKUP: every user should make an explicite decision if the result should be near or exact. Therefore I recommend always fill in this value.

Excellent video...I was wondering how you created the presentation page with a pane on the left with the + sign. I will love if you could share a video on that as well

Big help, I was about to convert all my vlookups to xlookups in a file I send externally. The backwards comparability limitation is good to know. I know they don’t have the latest excel so would have been a waste of time. I do love xlookup now though, especially the iferror argument. Saves so many nested ifs

Great vid, Jon. Love the "ExcelPoint" slideshow. Just wonder how MS determined that VLOOKUP was the 3rd most used function?

Working in Tables means you don't have to worry about adding data. But if you work in ranges, your formulas
are always suspect.

ALWAYS work in TABLES. ALWAYS work in TABLES. ALWAYS work in TABLES. ALWAYS work in TABLES.
