What Really Happens at the North Korea / China Border?

North Korea is the most interesting and isolated country in the world, so I went to the border town with China to investigate what is going on. I often think about my trip to Pyongyang, North Korea back in April 2017 - it was a completely bizarre experience. All Americans are banned from going back, so for now, this is the closest I could get to stepping foot on North Korean soil.

If you ever got the chance, would you visit North Korea? Comment below and share your thoughts!

If you ever got the chance, would you visit North Korea? I'm curious to hear what you have to say!

The reason you are being asked to delete these footage is to protect North Koreans in China, but also for your own safety. Some North Koreans will do whatever it takes to protect their identities because they have nothing to lose. And there must have been some foreign spies in Dandong, especially at a time when the situation on the Korean Peninsula was very tense.

She said she don’t understand. It is not mean she doesn’t want to talk

He kept saying he come to see north Korean, taste north Korea food, north Korea culture in the video, all he actually experienced is just Chinese ethnic minority Korean people. They have been living here for generations and centuries. They're locals. He apparently trying to make it more appealing to western viewers.

Dandong is not heavily militarized. It is actually quite heavily commercialized as a tourist destination

Filming North Koreans in Dandong is actually crazy. it's somewhat a life/death problem if your film exposed the identity of the North Korean and he might get caught and sent back to North Korea.

I went into North Korea on a budget tour from Dandong in 2018. Dandong didn't seem as sketchy then as Drew makes it out to be in the video, with the exception that as a foreigner I got a lot more stares from locals than any other place in China. Just another Chinese city that happens to border with North Korea. I enjoyed my time there. A lot of the attractions are in walking distance. When you look at North Korea from the broken bridge the idea of going inside is super exciting but when you actually take the train over to Sinŭiju the reality isn't quite as thrilling as expectations. Never left the train in Sinŭiju. All of the immigration is done on the train as the immigration officer comes on board. Not much to see of Sinŭiju outside the train window. Just a clean train platform with Some North Korean guards having a laugh among themselves. from there to Pyongyang it's just alot of brown farmland and locals on bikes. When you reach Pyongyang, that's when it gets more interesting.

My grandfather fought in the Korean war as well. I giggled when she said "our grandfathers were enemies". I think that's beautiful.

I just recently watched The Little Chinese Everywhere channel content about China North Korea border, but her take on it is very calm without prejudice 😊 she doesn’t make a big deal out of it and she is very thorough and speaks very well. It is very interesting these borders .

If that person's is a police officer, he won't let you delete the video because the video will be evidence. The reason he made you delete the video must be to protect other people.

The reason why windows should be closed during takeoff is that Dandong Airport is also a military airport.

at around 10:00 minutes, there is no way you convinced a security official that you are not a spy. like someone else had mentioned, this is overly dramatic.

This video is a bit too dramatic, we just came back from Dandong and it is just a nice little tourist city with surreal views over the North Korea. We even had a wave to each other with the Korean guys on the other side of the border ✌️

I cannot see you guide's face, but she sounds like a sincere person

Dandong is just a border tourist city, a beautiful and clean small city, without any special features!
Cameras can be found in any city, but Dandong is a border city with slightly more cameras, which is normal!
