More Secrets Of The Underground

Geoff goes out onto the network, this time pointing out old lines, bad grammar, stations that could have been, and -- of course -- how there are always signs that show the wrong number of steps ...

Well done for opening up the description and reading this bit! Not everyone does. There's no game to play this time, or a particular thing to type, but do feel free to leave us a comment if you have enjoyed!

Note that will also be no Secrets of the Crossrail until at least 2018 (that's when it opens, and therefore is impossible to do until then), and we have no plans to do Secrets of the Buses either.

Northern City Line or Thameslink still remain a possibility though!

Thanks to those that have translated the video captions into the following languages:

I love procrastinating, and these underground video are the ideal videos to watch when doing so.

I just love watching videos made by people who (1) Know their stuff (2) Clearly enjoy making the videos (3) Are happy to be classed as nerdy.Keep up the good work, Geoff!

I used to get a late Piccadilly Line train home from work past that vent shaft after Manor House. You can hear the air pressure change as you approach it and regularly lots of dust got sucked into the front carriage of the train as it passed.
There's another identical shaft building between Bounds Green and Wood Green

Imagine a James Bond scene where they change the train direction and the train falls off that bridge stub and crashes into the building

This series is definitely my favourite on this channel! Maybe you could extend it with just 'interesting things about the tube', which contains generally interesting stuff that might not be good enough to put in a 'secrets' video?
It would be cool to see how many secrets you can spot in one days tube spotting! Might do that on my next 'London outing'!

I lived in the flats in front of that rogue piece of track off the Rayners Lane - South Harrow lone for 3 years and always wondered what it was used for and why it closed, thanks for scratching that itch of me needing to know all these years later!

Metropolitan line which share platforms with national rail between Harrow on the Hill and Amersham still reference "British Rail" on the signage even though British Rail hasn't existed for more than 20 years. The LUL ticket office/ticket machine at Marylebone is still painted in Network Southeast colours even though that's not existed as an entity for 20 years either.

I was going to comment saying I enjoyed this anyway, but especially after I heard that the track carried coal trains.

Gotta love Geoff and the Underground and how they keep little bits and pieces of history on the system. In Edmonton, enthusiasm for transit is seen as strange, and historic references are removed when people find them.

The map at Greenford has recently been corrected, so no longer says Shepherd's Bush Green :(
At Northolt (my local station) you can occasionally see something cool. Some Westbound trains terminate at Northolt (often in the mornings) and then go into a siding, just beyond the platform, between the Westbound and Eastbound lines. If you stand at the end of the platform, and wait a few minutes, you can see the driver enter the cab at what was the rear of the train and then switch the lights from red tail lights to white headlights. If you then wait a few more minutes the train will come into the station and you can get on a empty train with plenty of seats!

Also at Upton Park, there is a sign for West Ham United FC, which is now out of date as they have moved.

This series has taught me an awful lot. I'm sure a lot of people will be with me on that.

It's a great series Geoff. Keep it up!

Your old photo of Liverpool street redundant platform 3 brings back memories. I used to work for NWR Ohl maintenance, remember working through that area on the old permaquip trolleys a couple of times back in the 1990s. Always made me wonder when you see these derelict lines/ platforms to nowhere. There’s so many of them still knocking about in the undergrowth, great podcast mate .
