Using Plugins in Live sound [Video #1: Introduction]

This is the first video in a series of videos on how I use plugins for live sound at my church and at home. I am using a digital mixer Presonus StudioLive RM32 for mixing and Studio One DAW for hosting the plugins. I have a PC to run Studio One on and this PC connects to the mixer via Firewire 800. I setup each channel (instrument or vocal) to send the signal from the mixer to Studio One, process it with plugins, then return it to the mixer.
As the result, I have enhanced the sound of each and every instrument and vocal to "almost" the studio quality. Basically, I have extended the audio processing power of the system from limited to endless possibilities. The sound was sterile before and now it's rich, full, and lush. The limitation is me, who get to choose which plugins to use, not the system. And I like that because I can improve the system over time as I learn to use newer and better plugins, instead of being limited by the mixer's processing power.

Do you have setup tutorial video inside studio one 5 and setup inside Presonus mixer ? Got mine Presonus 32S and i need to do live streaming with plugins inside studio one 5.

Nice setup! You can do this with any DAW. I am trying to do this with the Presonus Studiolive series III console but don't think I can. Before my church upgrading to this digital mixer we had an analog Allen and Heath GL2400 using 3 presonus firepods with insert cables for 24 channels. With that we were running Pro Tools plugins and bypassing the eq processing on the gl2400 it was amazing, but it died and now am trying achieve the same goal with the studiolive.

This the perfect vid.... A simple question im doing digital sound for a big church using the UC presonus mixer but how can I use a third party daw after I have connected the PC with a FireWire if at all I want any sound from the UC surface to first be processed with plug ins of another daw like Ableton or FL before finally reaching the live streaming audience

Just an FYI usb 2 can send multiple outs. I do it at my church with a behringer wing. Nice video

Whats your opinion on just using a single computer vs a mixing desk? Especially when it comes to larger shows vs gigs? From the video it seems like you lean a bit more toward the home side of things but like using the expensive equipment hehe. For gigs I've been running a single laptop/interface for a while (got an awful soundguy who hated backing tracks) and its nice to be able to adjust things quickly on my laptop knowing our sound isn't relied on engagement and competence of a jaded dude just running sound for the beer lol.
