A two-day-old baby became one of the youngest victims of the war in Ukraine, after a Russian missile struck a maternity ward overnight. Former top State Department official Rick Stengel and PBS Newshour Chief Correspondent join Chris Jansing to discuss. “If you're attacking civilian infrastructure that has no military use, like an orphan, it's like a hospital, then that is a clear violation of the rules of war,” says Stengel. “The only good news, although there's no real good news here at all, is that Russia is running out of these missiles. Military experts think that Russia has already used up more than half of their missiles.”

When you’re too cowardly and weak to fight their army, you go after their defenceless civilians.

By expending its personnel, arms & ammo, artillery shells, & its missiles on 'soft' civilian target, such as cities, convoys of men, women, and children fleeing the war zone, rather than on the Ukrainian military, the Russians are making the same mistake the Germans did in the summer of 1940 when, during the Battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe changed its attack strategy from attacking airfields of the Royal Air Force to, then, bombing British cities, chiefly London. The larger British population, though suffering, absorbed the urban devastation, freeing up the British military to attack the German forces. Zelensky's speech before the House of Commons this past spring stirred not just the echoes of Winston Churchill's August 1940 speech but the historic dynamic Britain faced at the time, alone.... as Ukraine does.

I was wondering about that. Next stop for an industrial "accident" in Russia is the missile manufacturing factories

Good news, I'm sure but I'm certain most Ukrainians would prefer that the Russian army had already used 98 percent at least, of their missiles. Fifty percent still means way too much more unnecessary destruction.

FWIW, here in the Seattle area I have a Ukrainian-American coworker whose family lives in a village recently liberated by the Ukrainian army. I think that village has seen no forced evacuations by the Russians (aka "mass kidnappings"), no forced conscription, etc., thankfully for those in that village.

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful to our President Joe Biden. I'm thankful for his administration, our Democrats in Congress and all over the US, voters who showed up on Nov. 8 to say no to the GOP red juggernaut we kept hearing was coming. I'm especially thankful for young people who showed up, the old folks like my Jim and me who hobbled to the polls to vote blue down the ballot (me in a wheel chair for the second time during an election and happy to still have the right to vote), and for the poll workers who in some states risked their lives for Democracy. I'm thankful for the Independents and others who bucked their party to vote for freedom, for those who knocked on doors and gave rides to some who had no cars, despite the cost of gas. I'm thankful for any of my friends and family members who may have voted blue despite our state being almost totally red and knowing there wasn't a remote chance their vote would make a difference this year. I'm thankful that Ukraine has their own strong president. I'm thankful for the hospital staff who saved my life in June, and for my two new doctors who accepted me as a patient after my conservative doc of nearly twenty years fired me for using the f-word in a serious talk with his receptionist. I'm thankful that I still have the right to voice my opinion about any injustice, no matter how small. I'm thankful for my shrunken circle of good friends, for my in-laws in SC who call to check on us more often than family members who live in the same state we do, and for my two step daughters who never fail to call their dad to ask about me. I'm thankful for my Facebook friends who not too many years ago would've probably been called imaginary. I'm thankful for our one- day- a-week maid we call Neat because neither of us could memorize u her exotic name. I'm thankful for Jim for everything he does/did for me that (due to circumstances beyond my control) I'm unable to do right now. I'm also thankful that he enjoys cooking and doesn't mind washing dishes. I'm thankful for our two dogs who love me but will always love Jim the most. I'm thankful not to live in a state where six inches of snow falls overnight. I'm thankful we can afford to heat our big old home but chose not to this year. I'm thankful that we survived the first cold snap by dressing warmly and using a few strategically placed electric space heaters. I'm thankful that I've had the wherewithal to fight off the depression that came from unexpected health issues, and from simply living a longer life than any other female in my family ever has. I'm thankful for Medicare and the security of knowing we won't lose our home due to medical bills. I'm thankful that Eleanor held President Franklin Roosevelt's feet to the fire concerning social problems from the great depression, regardless of the strong conservative opposition.
I'm thankful for all of this and more. I just wish/hope that our country can/will provide for those who may not be as lucky as Jim and I are. I hope that GA Sen. Warnock will be re-elected so our chance of saving our country from Fascism will be greatly enhanced. I only wish that I/we didn't have to hope so much for good to win over evil.
As Beau of the Fifth Quarter would say, "Anyway it's just a thought." Have a wonderful Thanksgiving dear friends and readers. 💙💙💙💙💙

I’m so sickened by this senseless war and this is just out of all control. That helpless baby never had a chance.

If they were hammering us we wouldn't want to just wait it out. Ukraine is asking for more help and wasn't that what they were promised when they gave up their nuclear missiles?

Half of their missiles and all of their soul. Just a country running on empty. Perhaps this why war crimes come so easily to their troops.

Is anything stopping Russia from building more missiles?

We are responsible for this if we are going to supply weapons we should have been giving air support at the least and ground troops
