The problem is not a lack of interest in law enforcement, the problem is Arizona's abusive polygraph requirement which falsely labels honest applicants as liars and prevents people from wanting to subject themselves to this.

I don’t blame the police leaving the profession! The pay is low but the danger and risk if out of control now!

If they need manpower why not use the National Guard?

The department should consider hiring law enforcement retirees to man inside jobs and phones without penalizing their retirement packages. There are a lot of capable retired LEO's from all over the country in AZ and plenty that would help out for as long as needed and as long as possible.
This is all thanks to the politicians across the nation that supported Defund the Police and other anti law enforcement nonsense. Never have we seen such blatant disrespect and anti law enforcement rhetoric in the US. The lack of people wanting to take this job is dangerous for the police and dangerous for us all, especially with the large increase in violent crime since so many people have moved to AZ from other states.
We must vote out any politician that has been anti police or has been allowing revolving door justice, like the type of revolving door justice we are seeing in Phoenix. We are watching convicted felons being charged with robbery of a store and then being released on their own recognizance by local judges. Are you kidding me?? If there are no repercussions for their crimes, these criminals are only going to get bolder and bolder, Phoenix itself is turning into CA. There are homeless encampments, more crimes, more drugs and definitely more violence.
Open borders are only adding to this nonsense. We are turning into a third world country and the current people in charge are the cause of it. Vote them all out, regardless of party affiliation. Anyone that was anti law enforcement or has allowed open borders, etc., they all need to be voted out of office no matter what.

There are a lot of civilians out there that may have a degree in criminal justice that would make homicide detectives! Hire them and let them work cases with detectives to solve cases and they have no arresting powers. This would allow some detectives to do patrol also. I know it will never happen because it’s a great idea but I think this is something every state should do even when there isn’t a shortage.
