For years, ABC15 has reported on the officer shortage that the Phoenix Police Department has been dealing with. The department says right now they're about 560 officers short of their budgeted number of 3,125 officers. Leaders are hoping to combat the problem by putting more of an emphasis on civilian positions like Police Assistants.

After 26 years of this work I can say that it is truly one of the most unappreciated professions in the USA. I am so glad that I was able to retire and that I am still alive.

Im more worried about the "courtesy" side. If they hold the "badge" they will flaunt it.

Tell you what I'm 40 yo healthy as can be and would join the pd if I wasn't "too old" 39 is the cutoff..also if they paid a descent wage worth the danger ot would help get more new recruits...50k a year in 2023 is nowhere near worth the risk..no money is worth your life but I Def aint gonna do that job for the peanuts they offer..

Just go back to the medieval days of criminal punishment. You steal? You lose an arm. Yeah it’s a harsh punishment but petty theft will vanish real quick if thieves realize they’ll lose an arm if they get caught.
