★Learn How I Analyse Businesses For Consistent Stock Market Returns★

In today’s video I discuss Warren Buffett’s recent 13F SEC filing which showed that he sold 3% of his biggest investment, Apple stock. Warren Buffett has been very clear about his position on selling shares and as recent as in April he stated that he does not trim positions, but that if he is selling a stock, most of the time he will sell all of it.

So today I explore whether that is the case with his 3% sale of AAPL stock or whether there is another explanation for why he made the minor change.

More 13F videos will be coming your way over the next couple weeks as I cover the portfolios and trades of successful investors so make sure you are SUBSCRIBED with notifications turned on!

Trim due to extreme climb in apple aswell as financing new investments. Money gotta come from somewhere for new things. Even if he has a baseline in his philosophy, there is something called operational drift, meaning you don't always do exactly everything in line with your baseline.

Can we please have an episode into the life of Lucy???

As a value investor, Hamish really underestimated the value of Lucy. Better late than never lol.

November 2021. Costco today is $510 per share. This kid is one of a million

It's possibly a special case of trimming position. It's weighted too highly on the portfolio.

Plus, reducing Apple stock to release cash for purchasing more affordable positions without biting too deep in his cash position seems like a classy move to me.

You’re Joel Greenblatt video led me here. Really enjoy digging down into great investor philosophy and trying to learn from them and their actions.

Can you do a video about investment sizing, as in how much you should put into every investment. I've seen people use Kelly Criterion and things like that.

Would love to hear your approach

Warren Buffett's advice for investors is to "never listen to people like me" (may 2019).

Last summer, APPL weighted about 43% of Berkshire's portfolio. Selling 3% of is APPL shares is only noise.

If was Warren I would definitely continue selling my Apple position. I think most investors haven’t realized how vulnerable Apple really is with its current market cap. I would buy Xiaomi instead of Apple currently

Perhaps most surprising, Berkshire Hathaway sold its entire position in grocery retailer Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ:COST) during the third quarter

Very doubtful he'll sell all his stake. It's still a very impressive business growing both book value and earnings YoY. It's giving Berkshire well over $700 million dollars per year in dividend payments and rising too. He once or twice when asked why he's sold part of his stake in a company has made it clear it wasn't him and intimated that it was one of his Investment officers (Todd Combs and Ted Weschler) instead.

I'd like to think he's either trimmed or cut his apple position entirely because their financial engineering is just unlikely to work as well as it has before. Management continues to buy back their arguably very overvalued stock instead of finding better investments or just giving it to the shareholders. Buffett always says he doesn't like management who abuse buybacks and financial engineering.

Sure it's not a rebalancing. Basically everything is just apple

I think it is likely this was a Ted or Tod move. They move in and out more often than Buffett does.

Apple holds 48% of Buffett’s portfolio. Prior to the trim this quarter it was at 51%. I don’t think he’s getting rid of the position but rather he doesn’t want any company taking more than half of his portfolio, percentage wise. Online shopping looks to be the future and iPhones really facilitate that plus Apple absolutely dominates that industry. Apple has the 20% or more growth rate that Warren really likes in a company. My opinion is he won’t sell out, there’s no reason to. What really surprised me was the complete sell off of Costco, what must that mean?

Of course, you should naturally assume Todd or Ted are doing portfolio adjustments when you see small adjustments or investments in non-Buffett type securities.

Can you explain why they sold 40% of Barrick just after they bought them the quater before?

Could he be crystalising some capital gains to offset against the capital losses he took on the airlines, so that he does not have to pay takes on these capital gains.
