Side by side comparison of some popular 2d animation frame rates. The very bottom one is 24 fps, in case you can't see it because the title information kinda covers it. #shorts

1 looks like a fireplace fire
2 looks like a camp fire
3 looks like the house is burning down

I think each one has there own uses, like 24fps would be good for more realistic scenes, 15fps would be for more focused shots, and 12fps would be good for one of those really intense Ninja/Samurai animations where the hero and the villain meet and do a one on one dual with fire in the background.

The movement on the 24 frame one looks very realistic but for some reason I like the 15 frames best

Both 12 and 15 appeal to me. 15 looks more natural whereas 12 gives feels more visually interesting. 24 looks too chaotic imo

Idk why but the 12 fps looks like It came out of a movie intro where a old man tells the tale of a hero before a fireplace.

12 frames per second has a certain charm for me

Depends on the scene imo. But on a slow paced scene i'd prefer 12 fps.

If i had to rate it:
12-Calm
15-Casual
24-Windy
I prefer the 24 fps

The 15 moves like actual fire despite the 24 being the smoothest. I reckon this is because the frame rate wasn't actually increased, it was just played back faster for each version.

12 fps: ok a campfire
15 fps: burning wood but not a camp fire
24 FPS: BRO THATS A WILD FIRE WTH

15 FPS. Fluid but still right before the art style gets lost in too many frames

12 fps is actually cozy and 16 fps has that dramatic effect while 24 looks like more real.

I like the 12fps one as it simulates the fire it would look like in anime.

12 looks best to me because the slower, choppier movement of the flames feel more akin to something dramatically burning in front of me

12 fps: cozy and comforting

15 fps: campfire

24 fps: arson

Personally I generally like 24 best, but I can see situations youd want the other two

I'm thinking of doing some light animation to incorporate into videos I make, but the videos I make would either be 30fps or 60fps, and for the purposes of matching up with the video, you want to choose an animation framerate that divides into the video framerate evenly, so for 60fps video either 12fps or 15fps will work, and for a 30fps video only 15fps will work, but 24fps doesn't jive well with either 30fps or 60fps... so for me, personally, I'll probably choose either 12fps or 15fps.

The 12 frames one give it a nice touch. It seems like a fire. Easy to read by audience and the fps just have that feeling. Doesnt matter what anyone says my opinion says 12 fps hits that one perfect spot for fire
